Senate Rejects GOP Oil Drilling Plan

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate has rejected a Republican energy plan that calls for opening an Alaska wildlife refuge and some offshore waters to oil development. Supporters of the measure couldn't get the needed 60 votes to overcome a Democratic-led filibuster threat.

Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said more domestic oil production is needed to keep prices in check and to reduce U.S. dependence on oil imports.

Ain't that the truth! The Dems couldn't really care less about the plight of the workin' guy. They talk about helpin' labor then sign off on NAFTA. They talk about outrageous prices at the pump and then prevent oil exploration. They whine about the war but keep funding it. They are void of answers for anything but oppose everything. They (the Democrat lead House and Senate) have lower approval ratings than Bush. All in all, pretty worthless.

in the long-term, the libs are to blame for the high gas prices of today. if we had access to our domestic reservoirs, if we could build more refineries or if we could develop nuclear energy we'd all be better off. mad about high gas prices? thank a liberal.

Oil prices dropped to very low levels for roughly 20 years primarily as a result of CAFE standards which were instituted by President Carter and the Democratic Congress.

By contrast, during complete Republican control of federal government budgeting from Oct 2001 to September 2007 (just 6 years), the price of oil went from $19.39 to $79.91 - more than a 4-fold increase.

Hey Daytime ... This is the problem. I keep telling anyone that will listen, it isn't dem's or repub's ... It's the Government not adhering to the will of it's citizens.

People like Will are happy to place blame and keep voting for the SOS.

He doesn't get it even though after 50+ years of democratic control of both houses we're being taxed almost 40% of our income and illegals have over run our Country.

He's just happy to blame those evil ratpublicans. That is what he's been taught.

Right on!! why in the hell don't we just do it, someone just start doing it!! Why do we need permission!! The local drilling companies for the United State should just go up to Alaska and start drilling, who would come and put them in jail, just do it, you dont need anyones permission just start drilling.
