Have you seen this video of Lou Dobbs saying Bush should be impeached? http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx... (Shameless self promotion – it’s from the organization I work for). But, it’s a great video and you should check it out anyway.

Tick tick tick tick
July 2, 2008. Still no impeachment. What is taking you lefties so long?
Is it a lack of actual CHARGES? How about checking to see if he returned all his library books?
How about parking violations?
Say, when are those "Impeach Bush" t-shirts going on the discount rack? Are you managing your bumper sticker and yard sign inventory so you aren't stuck with a bunch after January?
Maybe a sticker to put over the "Bush" on the yard sign that says "McCain". Somebody working on that?

#458 and #460 make sense. I assume they are adults. Richie at #468, I think you had better check out your Maryland law. I think maryland is one of the first states to attempt to enter into a compact with other states which would, all together, have a majority of the electoral votes in a Presidential election. Once (if) that many states with that many electoral votes joined in a formal agreement with each other, to all cast their electoral ballots (mandated by state law - so no elector could go off on his or her own) for the national winner of the popular vote, then the supporters of this project think it would be a way to by-pass the (nearly impossible) Constitutional Amendment process to get the President elected by a popular vote majority. It is still unfair, because each state has two electoral votes regardless of size, and the others based on population (total number equal to number of Senators and Congressman). But that was essential to the big-state-small-state compromise when the Constitution was agreed to. Federalism itself is the first obstacle to a pure "one-person-one-vote " system in the U. S. As a practical matter, that is probably unchangeable. Luckily, from a fairness point of view, there tne d to be many small blue states as well as many small red states, and a few small purple ones (NW most notably). So both in the Senate and in the Electoral College (which is a formality, usually, unless state law does not bind the Electors to vote for popular vote winner in that state) there tends to be some blancing of the partisan advantage. Vermont, Maine, Delaware,Rhode Island trending blue, as well as Hawaii. Alaska, Utah, Idaho, Dakotas, Wyoming, and others trending red. It is interesting to watch the progress of the efoort that Maryland is leading. It will require convincing many state legislatures. You might be interested to know that Nebraska, for one state (I'm not sure about others) divides 3 of its 5 Electoral votes by Congressional district (which is not necessarily totally fair, because of CD gerrymandering, but at least is more nearly fair than winner-take-all. So, for example, Obama oplans to campaign and organize heavily in the Omaha-area Congressional district, while assuming that the other two CD's would go Republican. I personally would prefer dividing the Electoral vote in each state according to proportional representation of how the voters in each state voted state-wide. But that, of course, would invite "dirty tricks" such as the Republican attempt to divide California's Electoral votes in that way (which I think they are attempting) while at the same time the Republican-controlled legislatures in Texas and Florida prevent their Electoral votes to be divided proportionately. To be fair, the plan I favor would also need a compact between the states -- only for this, nearly all of them - especially the big states. And that would be, as a practical matter, even more difficult than what Maryland is attempting to do. Sorry I'm off-topic, but most people don't know about this initiative by Maryland, and it is very interesting. At least someone is thinking creatively about ways to reform the Electoral Vote system (which I don't like as it is). PS I did suspect that the Realist was being ironic. Clever, but how many people got it? I have that problem too. But just imagine poor Colbert when someone watches his show and doesn't know what he is up to!

apologies to fin-fan, I forgot I hadn't spell-checked -- sometimes I tyope too fast and watch keyboard instead of monitor and get letters in wrong order. hope meaning was clear, nonetheless.(I'm leaving typos in this time as a sample -- I'm almost more afraid of what I'll be accused of if my words are all correctly spelled and my punctuation always matching, like always remembering to put an ending)...and the period in the correct place. once I find a few other people who make sense on this long discussion (look,I;m new to the computer slang -- is the word "thread" what is used to describe all this long weries of 46l comments?) I will comment on the topic. I already did, on another Kucinich-oriented topic -- Kucinich-Wexler impeachment resolution. But I'll try to summarizxe here. It really is harder work to do a short post and still include all the essential elements and be clear. I just wrote as I thought on long above comment, and felt need to explain everything, since I don't know how many people have studied the basics, and how many have forgotten it because on the surface it can seem boring. Underneath the surface, there's a political war going on. Do you think the word "weries" was a Freudian slip?

At this late date, the point is not to try to remove anyone from office, but to enforce the rule of law; to impress upon our elected officials that they took an oath of office, promising to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of The United States, that they violated that oath, and that they must be held accountable.
And, that will discourage future leaders from attempting the same illegal activities.
