OSHA fines Menards for safety violations in Nebraska man's death

OSHA, always late to the game......for the employee who dies or is hurt.

Yes, too little too late. Maybe the store managers should pay attention to what is going on.. instead of sitting in the office counting the money.

Or maybe people can be accountable for their actions and in this case, think that maybe things weren't looking right or safe?

I was in Menards last night and asked one of the drivers while loading some blocks for me if they had a FL license and they asked what is that!

FL license? Forklift license? There is no such thing as a forklift license. Most forklifts are used only by businesses, like Menards, and usually don't require a "forklift license." Most businesses train their employees in how to operate a forklift, More often then not the only license that's required is a valid drivers license and that they be 18yo and older.

Well, actually there is a certification course and this site claims certification is needed to legally operate a forklift.

I agree and with so many workers here on meth, accidents happen way too much.

That doesn't necessarily mean that a license is needed to operate a forklift. Many organizations claim a license is needed to encourage training or mandate a license, whether or not a particular industry (or state) requires it.

a license will not guarantee that the fork life operator will not get on meth and present a danger to you. Please use strong sanctions against workers on thats tuff. It is all over western nebraska.

Just because a company is issued OSHA citations does not mean they are (or are not) in compliance with OSHA reg's. Sometimes OSHA issues citations incorrectly, because of poor investigation or because they don't have all pertinent info. Read OSHA reports to see the connection between drugs and industrial accidents. You will find that drugs are often suspected in unexplained accidents. I am not saying it is the only cause..just one.

All biases aside, I'm at that store all the time and the safety standards are pathetic. I've got friends that work there they have accidents all the time. Home Depot is currently at 120 days without a lost time. I almost got hit by a driver cruising down the lane honking not waiting for anyone. People get annoyed at the Depot requiring gates to be set up, spotters used. Menards just uses their horn. Theres a reason our landscape timbers are only stacked one bay high in self standing restraints. Regards to the family it's so terrible that the fact they're privately owned and not closely watched causes them to be so careless when it comes to safety.

well said but when some workers use meth, can you really ever be safe?

Reports say that Alice is an idiot and is addicted to the topic of meth. Nobody is safe around Alice.
