Jackson worker dies in fall at job
The state probe into the death of a Jackson man at a University of Michigan job site in Ann Arbor on Monday could take several weeks to complete. David J. Smith, 31, reportedly died after he stepped into an empty elevator shaft under construction in a new building at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business about 6:30 a.m., Ann Arbor fire officials said.
Smith, an employee of Schindler Elevator Corp., fell five floors to the ground. It was the second death at a UM construction site in the last six months....
