Hmmm....let see...all of the WDW buildt attractions have moving sidewalks in the loading and unloaded area except this one which was bought off the shelf. Maybe they shouldn't have gone cheap.

Actually not all WDW attractions have moving sidewalks (Space Mountain, Dinosaur, Expedition Everest, etc). I do agree that they shouldn't have bought off the shelf. However, there are exceptions to every rule.

Check your facts.

RIDES WITH MOVING SIDEWALKS:
People Mover, Buzz Lightyear, Snow White, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Haunted Mansion.

RIDES WITHOUT MOVING SIDEWALKS:
Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Pirates, Goofy's Barnstormer, Small World, Indy Speedway, Astro Orbiters, Dumbo, Tea Cups, Jungle Cruise.

And that's just the Magic Kingdom. The moving sidewalks are only used for continuous operation rides.

And if you were wondering all except for Goofy's Barnstormer were built in-house by Disney.

Also notice that every attraction CountyResident mentioned is at least 15 years old, except for Buzz Lightyear, which was retrofitted to an attraction that was over 20 years old.

However the attraction in question is at Animal Kingdom. How many moving sidewalks are there?

Meanwhile, it's very nice that they're closing the barn door after the horse has escaped and putting safety mats on this one attraction where the unfortunate Cast Member went where she wasn't supposed to and, as a result, died. But what about the dozens of other attractions at Walt Disney World that have the potential for the same thing to happen? Why aren't they putting safety mats down at those attractions too?

I'm sorry with all the technology in the world, why does it always for something tragic to happen in order for companies to realize that they need to make improvements. The Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty, stated that the death led the company "to consider additional safety enhancements." This just let's me know that human life is the price Disney is willing to pay for improvements. I'm sorry, that's a really sad outlook to have considering Disney is the largest "family" theme park chain in the world.

I applaud Disney for taking extra precautions, though I do not blame them for the incident which prompted it. An off limits zone is and should be an off limits zone.

Because a lot of the rides and shows where people can get injured currently have safety features and emergency-stops. Many rides (Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth, Dinosaur, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc) already have e-stop and safety features to help prevent accidents.

Why does it take something tragic? Because that's the nature of an accident. They reveal flaws that need to be addressed in order to prevent further injury and death. You could have all the technology in the world, but that ain't gonna help you see into the future. It's obviously very sad that this person died as the result of an accident, but you can't blame a company if they thought they were doing enough to prevent this sort of thing from happening. Besides, isn't it better that they address the issue and fix it, rather than ignore it and pretend it didn't happen?

VERY inaccurate statement. That said, Primeval Whirl is not just a 'wild mouse' roller coaster. In addition to the roller coaster aspect, the cars also spin like a Tilt-A-Whirl. The cars spin on an off-center axis, thus creating the safety zones on the loading platform. Remember, the best engineering in the world cannot prevent a lapse of good judgement.

I am very sorry for the family of this employee, but Disney try as they may, cannot erase human error.
Why is it that we are trying to create a world that is idiot proof. When do people ever have to become accountable for their own actions. I, for one, am really just blown away by all the stupidity in this world. Whether it be Disney or some other company, everyone is so afraid of law suits that we are all going to end up living like the boy in the bubble soon.
