Our government has to view and protect the whole of our society. I want to know where my rights are in terms of protecting me from the masses running around Dodge City with their firearms. Let's just consider for one moment all the people in your work place, imagine them with a gun in their car- close by within reach of their grasp.. Frightening, you bet...

With all this talk about work place firearms, college kids taking firearms, and everyone must carry a firearm attitude. What or how does the police feel about millions of residents running around arming themselves?
Incident#1- Someone comes into the work place with a gun and dozen people run to their cars to get their guns. Now, the police arrive with 11 people running around the building shotting- who do the cops shot???
Incident #2 A gunmen arrives at your office and starts shotting, do you then ask him to stop so you can run to your car and get your gun?
Incident #3 A man and woman in your office are having a heated argument, the man has a black object is pointing at the woman. You run to your car and get your gun and run back into the building and the man is aiming the object at the woman so you shot him. In the man's hand was a stapler- you now have shot an innocent unarmed person...
Lawsuits...

Given the 21st Century's threats to me and my property, I am looking for a gun shop to buy an surface-to-air missile. I an certain the Second Amendment covers me.

Unbalanced people intent on killing others -- usually called LAW BREAKERS -- don't pay any attention to the laws as they exist. Yet, legislatures and anti-gun zealots just don't seem to grasp the fact that 'gun free zones' are merely target rich environments for these deranged sorts.
Allowing businesses to prohibit the LAWFUL carriage of firearms in ones personal vehicle while on their property mandates, in effect, that a LAWFUL owner of firearms (handguns or long guns) must leave their means of LAWFUL self protection against these cretins at home when they leave for work. That renders them defenseless on their way to and from work and at every stop in between. That is unwise and foolish in today's world.
Those of us who own handguns and carry Florida (or elsewhere) issued CCW licenses are among the most law abiding, responsible citizens in our society. It is NOT we whom business interests -- and others -- need fear. It is the criminal cretin who, by definition, ignores the law, all law, generally.
Yes, the legislature should most certainly allow us to keep our LAWFUL firearm(s) in our personal vehicles.
Have a day. Bang Gunley

The Founding Fathers (FF) believed that it was necessary to set out certain "rights" in the Bill of Rights. The right to keep and bear arms is one of these, the Second Amendment. Its language has been parsed over and over by many in search of the intent of the FF. However, their intent that this be an individual right is clear in other statements and writings by Jefferson, Paine, Adams, Franklin and in the minutes of the Constitutional Convention. The FF were opposed to a standing army. The "militia" they referred to was the populace; able-bodied citizens who owned guns, ready to answer a call to arms to face a threat. Often there was in place a loose organization with elected or appointed officers, and minimum requirements for individuals to have shot and powder on hand. However, anyone could own a gun and most did. A gun was and is a tool with its purposes just as much as an axe or a hammer. If anything, the world is a more dangerous place than ever and keeping and bearing arms has never been more important.

Why do you fear the law-abiding gun-owner? This hysterical response to gun ownership and concealed carry is trotted out by the anti-gun nuts on every occasion in every locale. The truth in Florida and everywhere else is that gun ownership and concealed carry reduce crime. Furthermore, those licensed to carry are the most law-abiding citizens. Get a grip and look at the facts. Perhaps that will quell your fears.

It seems everyone is missing the main concept here: Do you or the police really think that all the "illegal gun owners" are gonna turn over their handguns? From this big city gang or that big city gang, to this un-abiding citizen to that un-abiding citizen, they are gonna have their guns, and I'm gonna have mine. I can't count on anyone to protect me or my kids at a moments notice. Should I tell the criminal if it were ever to happen to me, hang on while I call for help cause Iam no longer allowed to protect me and my family? Wake up! I don't need anyone telling me what I can and Cannot do to protect what I need to protect.

I was arrested in Seminole County in 2006 for the victimless crime of carrying a concealed firearm without a permit. Forced by a legal system to choose between my liberty and my dignity, I chose my dignity and now I have a criminal record because of it. Naturally, I am disgusted with the blatant unconstitutionality and irrationality of Florida's gun laws. Given Tallahassee's recent behavior, I have see no reason to change my opinion. While it may strike some as contradictory to be willing to go to jail rather than to beg for one's God-given rights and then, two years later, denounce a law giving more "freedom" to gun owners, this new law is more of the same old big government intrusion which put me in handcuffs in the first place; with a deceptive twist.
A person's body is his property and he should have a right to protect it as he sees fit. If an individual makes the wrong choice and shoots an innocent person, he will pay the consequences. Similarly, a person's business is his property and he should have a right to defend it as he sees fit aswell. If a business makes the wrong choice and their employees become the defenseless victims of rampant crime, it will gain a dangerous reputation and suffer labor shortages. There is simply no reason that the government needs to make this decision.
In fact, it is the freedom to make these types of decisions ourselves, as individuals and as businesses, which the right to keep and bear arms, the right to be secure in one's property, and the rest of rights in the Constitution exist to protect.
