Drowning victim recovered at dam

Authorities have recovered the drowning victim of an accident at Alabama Power's Mitchell Dam. Four divers from the Chilton County Sheriff's Special Operations Unit found the body at 11:43 a.m. today. Authorities were called to the scene at 10:22 this morning. Verbena and East Chilton fire departments responded to the scene.

The identity of the male victim has not been released because his next of kin has not been notified. Alabama Power spokesperson Jan Ellis said they have launched a full investigation into the incident....

This man was my uncle, Robert Courtney. It was a shock to receive such devastating news. He will truly be missed throughout our family.

This was a great recovery dive by this dive team.
Deep dark water in the coosa river. Its nice to have professional part time teams still out there!

Ms. Griffin my prayers go out to you and the family.......... Also today I was in contact with a former friend that had worked with him for five years and he said he was the best man he had ever known!

Bro. Courtney was true man of God and He preached and lived it. He will be missed, but the family and friends can get some comfort knowing he was in the Lord. God Bless his family and his church family.
