OSHA cites Shippensburg foundry for alleged violations

Who is/are the employers?

I am an Employee and I agree AND disagree with OSHA. It is tough for an owner of a foundry to run a business in the USA anymore !!! We do our best to make sure we are all safe but rules are rules and what can you do ??? Been there 16 yrs. and am proud to say EVERYTHING we make is made in the U.S.A.!!! It is HARD work and no one wants to get hurt on the job but we do what we can......( Just sayin....)

Shut'er down than until the issues are fixed. The LCB shuts down a club for illegal gambling.. Maybe if the employees were illegals it would be overlooked. No one has to work in unsafe conditions. Safety is always number one.

Same old, same old.
Repeat multiple violations, no less.

American industry endangering its lower-paid workers to make more of the almight buck.

Domestic Casting should be ASHAMED.

It's cheaper for companies to pay fines, than to make the necessary corrections.The mining industry is a prime example of this.Safety in the work place is going back to the stoneage.Corporate greed runs the show.O.S.H.A. IS A JOKE.

OSHA fines are up 4 fold in the last 2 years. Just to cite a "serious violation" if you open the door on electrical panel to reset a breaker and forget to close it,$7000 fine, first offense. Now who forgot to close the door, the owner of the company, or the worker. I'm not suggesting that these things are not important, but there should be some common sense used. Companies that allow serious conditions to go unresolved should be fined, but OSHA should be helping industry get to a safer point, not run them out of business.

Come on if this continues there will be another company in China! Send OSHA to China and I will assure you they will not find any fault here in the USA anymore. We are over protected!

Always two sides to every story! Disgruntled employees and employers who do not always require the necessary safety standards. No winners but OSHA getting lots of cash!!!!

If OSHA conducts an audit of your workplace (even if it is an office building or your home) they will find at least a few "serious" violations. Serious is actually the lowest form of violation for which you can be fined. Before we condemn the factory lets find out what the violations were for. And I have worked in union shops that received just as many serious violations as non-union shops. Finally, most of the OSHA inspections are random and they will find something.

Of course they are safer. How can anyone be in danger when no one is doing anything? Unions are nothing but safe havens for slow lazy people. Merit pay is where its at.

FYI - The owners of Domestic Castings,LLC are NOT the owners of the unfinished buildings in downtown Shippensburg, that person owns Shipco.

Another nail in the coffin of American Business.
It's hard enough to make a buck without OSHA getting in the way. I'm sure some disgruntled worker complained and gave them an opportuity to justify their existence. Lets see them check out the Chinese plant which will probably be taking these jobs. By the way, too many of you people commenting have no idea what you are talking about and have never gotten your hands dirty doing anything, accept maybe gardening. Try working a real job for once.

Yada, Yada, Yada, doesn't the owner realize that it would cost a lot less to implement safety measures now than to pay out big $$ when somone is seriously injured or killed on the job. It's a cost of doing business.

I used to work here, it is hard dirty work. No one was forced to work there, they made the choice. It may not be the safest or healthiest job around, but i kinda miss the place. Unions are bullshit, why did gm and chrysler have financial problems, paying people $40 an hr to stand around... if your not scared to work, why give unions your money. Unions are the crooks. Osha fines are ridiculous, where does that money go to? not a good cause i'm sure, so big wigs pockets id think.

I could go into ANY workplace and find violations. A good auditor can get a feel about a companies safety culture just by looking around and talking to the employees and contractors.
