Texas? Why does CL& P have a Texas firm? Seems to me there are plenty of local firms? Why, they must save money I guess. You wouldn't think so, what with them being so far away. How do they cut corners? Hey, old timers, wasn't CL & P a great local company we were proud of? What happened,GREED? Deregulation?

I work near live power lines every day.
Always be observant of everything around you.
This should not have happened.
Poor safety meetings before the task was done.
Safety is #1

something sounds fishy. how can it be cheaper to do business with a company that operates from half way across the country? illegal aliens? noone in this state knows how to trim trees?
also, why aren't the buckets and booms made out of nonconductive materials anyhow? do metals need to be used when there is no great weight loads. it's a guy in a bucket with a pair of clippers.
maybe cl&p will pay more attention when they get sued by the family. this isn't rocket science, it's electricity and that is something they SHOULD know about. but then the customers will probably wind up footing the bill anyhow so why should cl&p even care.

LISTEN YOU MORON.......CLPCO DOES CARE!!! WHY SHOULD CLPCO GET SUED? IT'S OBVIOUS TO ME THAT THIS COMPANY DOES NOT TRAIN IT'S EMPLOYEE'S ON THE DANGERS THEY FACE WITH LIVE WIRES OR MAYBE IT WAS SOMETHING THAT HIS PARTNER DID. ACCORDING TO THE ARTICLE THEY HAVE BEEN SITED BY OSHA MANY TIMES. WHO KNOWS, MAYBE AFTER THE INVESTIGATION BY OSHA AND OTHERS WE'LL KNOW MORE. CLPCO MAY BE A LOT OF THINGS BUT THEY DO CARE WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY, BOTTOM LINE.

"In February, following a probe by the U.S. Department of Labor, the company agreed to pay $1.8 million in back wages to 2,500 of its workers in 16 states. Connecticut was not among those states. The wage-and-hour division of the Labor Department found that ABC hadn't adequately paid the workers." Sounds like a scumbag company hiring illegal aliens.

Those CL&P trucks with the large booms and buckets cost $100,000 AND UP AND ARE SUPPOSED TO BE CERTIFIED AND INSPECTED EVERY YEAR. Perhaps a tree branch grew around the wire or made contact with the cutting equipment. I have no answers other than OSHA will have to investigate and provide the answers. It is sad when workers are killed and young children and wives are left behind.

Everyone is talking about CL&P trimming trees or why hire an outside company? Someone died here. The article is about a worker killed, not about CL&P bidding policy

Genius wrote: <quoted text>It wasn't a CL&P truck I read the article and know that. I said the CL&P trucks. What don't you understand about that. Big money for equipment, poor maintainance, non-union help and deadly working conditions. This is a typical "Genius" statement; don't you normally read the DAILY NEWS and NY POST at work. Why are you slumming reading THE COURANT this late in your career. It is acceptable if you are a Red Sox fan.
