OSHA proposes $192,350 in penalties after inspecting NTN-Bower's Hamilton, Ala., plant

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is proposing $192,350 in penalties after an inspection at NTN-Bower's manufacturing plant in Hamilton, Ala., revealed 36 safety and health violations.

The plant's owner, NTN-Bower Corp., is being cited with one willful and 31 serious violations, while Advanced Technology Services, which provides maintenance support at the facility, is receiving four citations for serious safety violations. OSHA is proposing $172,350 in penalties for NTN-Bower and an additional $20,000 in penalties for Advanced Technology Services Inc.

"The large number of violations revealed by OSHA's inspection of this facility reflects management's failure to properly train its employees to work safely and ensure that company safety policies are followed consistently," said Roberto Sanchez, OSHA's area director in Birmingham....

It seems to be a careless disregard of the individuals helping the company earn money!

Who gives a crap about "UAW workers"?

They don't give a crap about the companies where their members are employed.

There is no better predictor of closure or bankruptcy than whether or not a plant is UAWized.

None.

Unions are a thing of the pass. For this company to operate safely and with a profit, you have to make some changes in your style of management. Train and educate your management team. Reward your employee's that instill inervation toward the sucess of there work place. The fines that you received could have created a few new position to help curve the effects of this recession. Safety and profit go hand and hand. It's now documented that your operation is a safety hazzard. If you don't act now, I see legal problems in the near future from your failue to act in providing a safe work enviroment and ultimately the closing of your facility.

Some of the uaw have been allowed to come back to work again, and as I stated in jan, they are lazy and whine about their job every day! There are plenty of people out there who would be happy to work here. As we have seen in wisconson, people are tired of the unions sucking them dry!

It is everyone duty to be safe. Workers take guards off don't replace them. Everyone at one time or another have been trained lock and tag out. But most want to yet hire another person because they are to lazy to do it. I have never seen a place with such lack of pride in what they do. Most want to blame the company for all their problems but yet take no responsibility for what they do. Just you guys keep showing up to collect a pay check and all of you will be looking for a job

Because that union has nothing to offer and some of the older members would like to see it close. It will not hurt NTN that much to close Hamilton location. If your great union did any policing of it's members you would not have such issues with the company but instead is pushing them selves and others out of job.
