Islam is by its very nature violent: no twisting of the Koran and Hadiths is needed. No, "lots of fundies" do not call for killing homosexuals; a few do. There is a difference between homophobics and those who regard homosexuality as a destructive life style, the first being irrational and the latter having a rational base.
Hey freeek, your bigoted claim that Islam itself is by nature violent doesn't make it so. You're a racist. And I've read the Old Testament. That looks pretty violent to the core to me. Perhaps you're merely insane.

Calling one sexual orientation a "lifestyle" but not calling another sexual orientation a "lifestyle" is the epitome of homophobia. You are an irrational, sexually disordered bigot. Your fantasies of some intrinsic, negative result from natural variations in sexual orientation are born out exactly nowhere. The homophobic plaintiffs in Prop 8 could not demonstrate your claim, though they likewise made it.

As I've said over and over again, the reason we don't have more talibangelicals in the US calling for the deaths of glbt people - and we have a lot of such violent talibangelicals, you don't see them at your parades - is because the US has secular tradtions to keep our fundie, "religious" freeeks in check. Otherwise they'd be trying much more stuff.

I have lived in the Middle East, studied their religion and culture at some length, and I will not change what I said about Islam: it is at its core a violent religion, and its history validates that. Yes, the old testament is brutal: thus the new testament.

You can disagree with me all you want, but that in no way makes me whatever you choose to call me. It just makes you a boy, not a man.

I agree that our laws and traditions do help keep our religious extremists in check, but the parallel between mainstream, violent Islam, and the extreme fringe of Christianity is false.

If you'd like to exchange insults on Topix, maybe you can find another boy to do that with.

No, you will fill that role just fine.

Thanks for agreeing that our secular traditions here keep our (xstain) "religious" freeeks in check.

It is that which explains the differences we see between many Islamic majority countries and Western (more Christian) countries.

There is no evidence that Islam or the Koran is intrinsically any more violent than is the Bible or Christianity. Luckily we keep our "religious" freeeks somewhat in check - that is the key difference.

The founder of the Muslim Brotherhood lived and studied in America and returned to Egypt thoroughly disillusioned with the America and set up what he thought was an alternative movement to prevent Americanization of the Middle East.

Your claim that Islam is by its nature violent and Christianity is benign. This benign Christianity of yours wiped out the Maya, Inca, Aztecs, Beothuk, and countless other native peoples, including the Caribe Indians, and then there are the Cathars who the Christians wiped out in France, then there is the 30 years war amongst the Christians that left 66% of all the inhabitants in what is today central Germany dead. Then there is that little thing about the Christian Inquisition, Crusades that murdered, plundered, raped and pillaged Arab Christians, Jews and Muslims, indiscriminately, destroying libraries, and that does not even reach back to what the Christians did to the Pagans, which was one big mass holocaust, and then there is the most recent Holocaust, a Christian crime, and that does not include all the murder and genocide committed in Christ's name in Africa, starting with St Augustine's genocides in North Africa against the Manicheans, and the grand slaughter by the cross and bible bearing killers in the Pacific and Asia. Did I mention the Christian world wars?
Christianity was spread by the sword, musket, machine gun, bombs, chemical, biological and nuclear weapons.
Christianity is the most violent totalitarian ideology the world has ever known. Christianity has shed oceans of blood, oceans!!! Oceans!!!!
Run along you vile, Holocaust- and Crusade-denying bastard!

Here's the thing, stupid: The acts you attribute to Christians were what, at least 500 years ago and many 1000 years ago. To find comparable acts by Islam, one need only go back ONE DAY, maybe just ONE HOUR...and it has been going on for 1,400 years. Admit it, if you could you'd kill Christians RIGHT NOW.

No, Christianity did not start WW I and II and those wars were not a jihad. Christianity has never been spread by chemical or nuclear weapons nor any weapon since maybe the flintlock. But Islam is spreading it right now via the machete. That's the thing about you Islamists: you are STUPID.

Disagree because being raised as a Catholic the Christian conservatives I have met in bible belt are Taliban like and would love to see gays killed if they could do ot legally.

COUNTLESS are screwed up abominations who would destroy this country and the world if they had the political power they wanted.

You can say that about Christianity from now to the end of time and the only consequence will be what comes or does not come to you after you die.

Say that about Islam in any country with sharia law, and you will be executed as a heretic. One of those differences I mentioned.

Actually, there was a time that Iran and the USA were friends, but its then government got cought up in cold war intrigues. 60 years ago Iran was not yet democratic. The then PM was thrown out by a coup which the Iranian military and middle class supported. That PM was never elected by a popular vote and was consorting with the Soviets. Later, Iran pillaged the US embassy and held hostage its diplomats. Give all the facts, man.
Of course give all the facts - so why did you forget to mention the US brought the Shah to power, a man who was as brutal as Pol Pot, a man who had hundreds of thousands of his own people killed for opposing him, a man supported by America. To be overthrown by the Islamic Revolution.

I thought you covered that pretty well. Now you throw a number like "hundreds of thousands" on the table, where's you get that? And no, Pol Pot had no equals when it came to monstrosity. Those linds of exaggerations diminish your credibility. Fact is, most of today's Iranians were not even alive back then. Iran needs to stop using stuff that old to justify its militancy. BIG mistake, the road they are on now.

JRR, The Shah was a pig, no doubt about it. He was placed in power by a coup involving several players, including the US's CIA, and was sustained by the West until the revolution. This took place during the cold war: lots of mischief in geopolitics going on then, as now. Iran was not so clean in all this, but nothing it was doing really justified what happened. We cannot repair history. Iran is now making a mortal error going down the nuclear road, to a gun fight with a knife. Iran could lead by positive example and regain much of its early glory, and it is not too late to do that.

They're trying to protect themselves:

FBI: 9/11 Truthers Should Be Treated As Possible Terrorists

Our government is teaching Our state and local law enforcement nationwide that 9/11 truthers should be immediately looked at as possible terrorists.

In an FBI, Bureau of Justice document on spotting potential sleeper cells within the United States it specifically states that someone may be a terrorist sleeper agent if they believe that the CIA had a hand in 9/11.(A fact that has been heavily documented by thousands of experts...)

Although all the supposed possible terrorists indicators are absolutely absurd, the fact that the FBI choose to specifically target 9/11 truthers shows how important, even after ten years, covering up the truth of the horrendous 9/11 attacks is to the powers that be.

Friends needn't agree on everything. I find your opinions pretty far out. As I have pointed out before, we are talking about the lives of human beings and should not be so flippant about it. This is genuinely serious stuff.

So how come members of the Christian clergy are being charged with genocide crimes in Rwanda? How come the Christian missionaries are at war all over Africa and even got the southern part of Sudan to break away under force of arms? Why did an American general in uniform go on a speaking tour across America telling Americans that Christians were on a crusade in Afghanistan and another American officer said the same thing in Afghanistan and GW Bush called it a crusade and Tony Blair has now said how he was guided by his Christian faith--that when he was committing the UK to war in Iraq and Afghanistan!!!
Christians are the power behind the Republican party in the USA and the supporters of zionazism and war war war war!!!!
You cannot wish away the facts that Christians have committed more violence than any other ideology in the history of the world.
The victims of the Christians in Canada are alive and still suffering the abuse and genocide they faced in church run schools. The victims of the CHristian pedophiles are not from 1,400 years ago, as per the singular claim against the Prophet, but is a current scurge and travesty alive and living in the Churches of Jesus today!!!
