If the numbers have been so wrong for so long, does this tell us that the new Visitors' Center really wasn't needed after all? Was it all really a scheme to line the pockets of the powerful?
The last time we heard about reduced visitation numbers, it became an excuse to increase admission fees to the attractions at the new amusement center. Does this mean that there will soon be another hike in fees to be paid by visitors? |

The NPS and the dethroned porn King actually lied? Merciful heavens. LOL!

You just need to ask the local merchants and businesses on Rte #30 and surrounding areas. They have said for years that the numbers were "cooked".
Anyone that knows anything about G-Burg knew the numbers were BS. |

I guess they included those 3700+ photos on Latschars' computor multiplied by 30 inviestigators and Prosecutors. Then recounted and certifed by an independant auditing firm Oh,let's just round up to the higher number and add 1.2 million visitors. Just like the stats on those who died on the Battlefield--and no documented evidence has ever been submitted. Factually it was under 10,000.
I wonder if the NPS will be counting those in the line of March and spectators for the soon to fail Remembrance Day Parade ? Parts of Steinwehr Avenue are already being dug open for the 3 year multi phased underground utility replacements of sewers , water and electric. We can also add no parking , gun permits required, parade permits required to the reasons that most organizations I know are NOT coming nor participating. Will Police Chief Joe Dougherty once again use his Public address system on his PoLice car to announce --"Clear the streets, the Parade is over'..as if he was ending Mardis Gras while 2 others were lying injured on the Battlefiled post parade ? Smile Joe--my camera will be on. |

if they would have let the casino in straban twp, those numbers would have probably been right.now we have to raise admissions and taxes.

Hey, I have an idea. Why don't you just pull the numbers out of thin air? Then you won't have to keep changing your "formulas" to get the numbers you want.
Here's a little hint for you geniuses, you can actually count the people who come through by a counter on a turnstile. Or keep a tally of the number of tickets you've sold on a daily basis.... and then add them up! Oh my, new math is so wonderful! I don't want to hear how you'll have to raise prices again, or the boycott will get even bigger. |

Wow...I hadn't heard that the Remembrance Day parade will be a flop this year. This has typically been a wonderfully busy weekend in Gettysburg. I can see your point though.(Such people friendly "authority" we have around here!) It will be interesting to see what happens in a few weeks. |

250,000 visitor error! If it were 2,500, maybe we could believe.
Bob Kinsley, Lying Latschar, Lying Lawhorn, and all the lying so called do good foundations to tell everyone they want to make the battlefield better.$$$$$$$$$ on their minds. Gettysburg will hurt for a long time, if they don't kick out these thugs, and the other phonies who build showcase hotels and bike dealerships to line their pockets. When they give, they take much more. |

I thank the Lord my Mom(now deceased)was able to see the full view from the tower that was chosen to be torn down.It seems to me that decision was made by a person of questionable qualities, who remains on full payroll while doing lesser duties. And you wonder why tourism is down? Ask yourself that question!

According to NPS numbers available at:
http://www.nature.nps.gov/stats/viewReport.cf... visitation at Gettysburg has been in a "death spiral" since visitation peaked at 6 million visitors in 1969 and 6.8 million visitors in 1970. They never have been able to count accurately, or else they lie when they say that 2008 visitation has broken attendance records. |

You know darned well, when they raised the VC prices it was because the idiots can't count. They bugeted in the red to make it look good to the DOI in order to get more money.
On a lighter note, with Honest John gone maybe more will come? |

Whether any of that is true, what does it have to do with the National Park Service? Most of the parade route, including Steinwehr Avenue is outside park boundaries and thus under state (some of the roads) or local jurisdiction. Remembrance Day is a reenactor driven event. The NPS puts its emphasis on Dedication Day (November 19), the actual anniversary of the dedication of the National Cemetery. The NPS doesn't even sponsor the Remembrance Day events, a private group does. It does sponsor the illumination in the National Cemetery along with the Foundation on Remembrance Day. If you think it's easy to determine how many people visit the park, let us know your method. Think of the number of entrance points and exit points, account for local traffic passing through the park, adjust for people who don't go to the VC (the old one or the current one), single v. multiple day stays. They always have struggled with it. Do you want to have a disastrous, failed Remembrance Day? Before you wish for it too hard in order to punishm whoever you're angry at, think of the hotel, shop, and restaurant owners, the people they hire, the places where all of those people spend their wages, etc. who'd be hurt. |

Every time there is a story about the National Park Service, the King of the Park Service, or anything to do with the battlefield; you always have something very enlightening to say to anyone who criticizes the happenings around Gettysburg. Who are you and why do you defend the NPS and all those in bed with the NPS so vehemetly? Anyone with 2 eyes and 2 ears can see that we were all sold a bill of goods when it comes to the management of the NPS, their affilliates, and the ridiculous amount charged to see the new visitor center. Someone is getting rich but it is not the soldiers who lie in the cemetary! |

Maybe the NPs was counting ghosts??
|
||||
Don't laugh. What they've denied even existed for decades will soon change when they can figure out how to squeeze more bucks from the suckers. |

Thanks to Brion FitzGerald for starting some of the clean-up of the taint at Gettysburg! Getting rid of the "100% antiquated" way of counting visitation is a good step in the right direction.
Every other NPS site in the entire system had long ago discarded this old method of calculating visitation; apparently it was retained here simply to provide a (flawed, wrong, inaccurate) justification for the creation of a new visitor's center to soak visitors and enrich a few cronies of certain people. |

"No other park in the country was still using numbers that high, Lawhon said. But, she added, it's "hard to say" when the park should have adjusted those numbers for a more realistic visitation estimate.
"It was high time we did it," Lawhon said." Now even Katie turns on her ex-boss; that's gonna leave a mark. |
