WELL IF THE OVERTHROW WAS LEGAL, THEN WHY DID THE UNITED STATES UNDER THE CLINTON YEARS HAVE A FORMALLY APPOLIGY? JUST FOR SHOW?<quoted text>
1. Kamehameha's conquest followed the rules of the time. He also implemented the Law of the Splintered Paddle, protecting civilians from harm in times of war. But also, no people or country lives in a bubble of perfection, and I'm not claiming Hawaiians did. But according to International law, the overthrow IS illegal.
2. Robbing Hawaiian children of their last gift is a crime.
3. Kamehameha teaches its children to be proud and to stand up for their ancestors. If Kamehameha was forced to serve fewer Hawaiian children, there would be even more indigent Hawaiians.
4. Your insistence on standing on one's own feet relies on a very amateur understanding of cultural and sociological dynamics. Yes, people should be resilient and strong and such, but several underlying currents often need to be in place for such change to occur.
