god bless the Snyder family, and God bless Bill O'Reilly. The fact that this man is being charged for court costs after what he has had to endure is bullshi_! Anyway, I love the way the good people of America come together for a terrific cause

As a veteran, I am appalled by your behavior. This young man gave his life for his country; there is no greater sacrifice. Your actions are despicable. I am a woman, I am straight and I am a veteran of the United States Army. What you are doing is worse than the way we were treated during Vietnam. You are no church. God hates no one! Your actions are immoral. Shame on you. I do have one question, did you ever don a uniform and serve your country?

I think our government should have stepped in and done something about these idiots from yhe church as it was their doing that the Marine was over there in the first place plus these people had no respect at least for the man; I don't believe our troops should be over there or anywhere else but here in this country but we are and this young man died so respect that and put these idiots in jail for a long long time.

I guess I just don't understand. I thought Christians are supposed to forgive each other, accept each other, and help each other. I also thought only Jesus, and God himself could judge people. Who do these wackos think they are? Did God and Jesus disappear and made this particular church group in charge of judgement? Hmmmm..."Judge Not, Lest Ye be Judged." Or how about "Do unto others as you would have done unto you?" Sounds like psychoterrorism to me. If they are that "fundalmentalist", then ship all of them over to Afghanistan to join the Taliban. How loud do you think they will protest then? They need to get on their knees and thank the military for defending their right to shoot their mouths off without getting shot, hung, or stoned to death. It is a privilege to live in this country, not a "God-given" right. This so-called free speech they are performing is being taken for granted. They couldn't do this anywhere else, and it is the army, marines, navy, air force and national guard to thank for all that we have. My father fought in WWII, and if it wasn't for him, and his group of honored veterans, we would be speaking German, or Japanese (depending on the coast). I bet these nut jobs forgot about that!! Preaching "God's" word??? I don't think that's what God had in mind. Kudos to Bill O'Reilly for jumping in on this one, and slap the judges for imposing the court costs on a father trying to mourn the death of his son for defending our right to exist without fear. Finally, the church is only making a mockery out of Christianity, and should be embarassed to even exist. They need to be punished and exiled from this great land of ours!!

So, this ‘great land of ours’ is only for those who engage in speech you approve of, and others should be punished, exiled or shipped off to Afghanistan? Are you listening to yourself? Were your standards to be put place, this would be Afghanistan! You can’t have it both ways. There’s either freedom of speech, or there isn’t. Which do you want? The actions of the Westboro Baptist Church are repugnant to any decent person, and they deserve to be publicly criticized--but not censored. The military you praise has defended everyone’s rights, and that includes the WBC. That’s the double-edged sword of freedom we operate under in this country, and the only alternative to that would be tyranny. And the same is true for the judge’s order of restitution. The Snyders lost their lawsuit, and the WBC was entitled to counter sue for costs and damages--as any of us would be if we were sued and prevailed against the plaintiff in court. That’s the law the judges in this case had to consider. It doesn’t necessarily mean that in this particular case, they didn’t find it morally reprehensible.

It hurts me, but freedom of speech can only exist if: I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.~Voltaire

WE ALL SERVED IN UNIFORM SO THESE PEOPLE CAN SAY WHAT THEY BELIEVE NO MATTER HOW DESPICABLE WE FIND IT TO BE, AND WE MUST DEFEND THEIR RIGHT TO SAY IT OR WE DON'T HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN AMERICA.

Must be nice to come home and read about all this bull crap after putting our lives in danger.... This church is using its freedom of speech but they dont realize that if not for us they would have no voice at all. Mr Albert Snyder keep your head up sir.... Your son didnt die for anything.... The protestors should be ashamed of themselves. My husband is a disabled Iraq Veteran and when he lost some of his men we went to their funerals there were protestors there. We mourned our fallen friends but I kept thinking to myself how would those people feel if I showed up at one of their family members funeral who had died horribly and said God has punished their loved one for not supporting the troops and they got what they deserved. I know that every soldier fights for these jerk wads rights to protest but why cant you give these Veterans families their proper time to mourn they deserve that for their sacrafice. find another time to be a jerk if you truely are a man of God you should know that the Bible says defend your home and you should remember it also says an eye for an eye because what comes around will come around to you and yours.

It is a sad day when the judicial system will not protect the rigts of a young man who gave his life for the rights of people that he has never met. Kind of sounds like somthing Jesus would have done. What we have here is the loss of the moral compass that our fore fathers had. Your son was a great man and I only hpoe that he is standing duty at the gates when this so called paster of this sorry excuse for a church shows up for his day of judgmen. Mathew show this pathetic excuse of human life no mercy and give him some good ole Marine justice. God speed my brother we all feel your loss.

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."
John 15:13
Thank you, Matthew, for the selfless service that you provided for this country. If it weren't for you, as well as the countless others that have defended our rights (including those of speech, assembly, and religion), we wouldn't have the freedoms that we so dearly cherish, or this beautiful place that we call home.
I would hope that NO ONE would dishonor one of our fellow brothers or sisters, ESPECIALLY a fallen soldier. You shame yourselves in the eyes of our Father to think yourselves and your opinions above that of His. We are ALL God's children, and don't you forget it.
God bless us all...

The Supreme Court was completely correct in its ruling. Can you imagine the legal precident it would have established had it ruled otherwise? And don't give me this " the only type of speech that they should be able to legally curtail is speech that is disrespectful of soldiers". As is the case with cops, soldiers are not one darn bit more moral than your average citizen and in many cases they are even LESS moral. They ARE, after all, PAID KILLERS...correct?

We always have had restrictions on the freedom of speech. You can't yell fire in a crowded theater unless there is a fire. The reason is your intention was to cause harm not offer a warning. The courts have ruled several times that "the freedom of speech" is not protected when the intent is to cause harm! I support the rights of the WBC to voice their opinion. They can stand on the courthouse steps or in the town square with signs that say whatever they want. But by goint to the funeral of a fallen soldier with signs like they had, their intent was obviouse!

Bill O'Reilly has already said severl times that he will pay the entire cost of the Snyder families court fees.
And too many people mistakenly think that the WBC wackos are Christians.
They are not, and their actions prove that.

Maybe you should read something before you form an opinion! Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire was a case where a police officer was insulted and the supreme court ruled that "fighting words" are not protected by the first amendment. What the WBC does is clearly intended to get the same kind of reaction and should not be allowed!

Further examplses are Ded Scott, Bowers v. Hardwicke, and Roe v. Wade. SCOTUS Justices ARE humans, and they DO make mistakes.
