Something is not right about this because prison is for punishment.
If they are mentally ill and dangerous then they should be in a mental hospital once they have done their time.

If they are exceedingly dangerous then they should have a letal injection?

I am all for do the time for the crime. I think we all can agree to that. However, if that time is up and the individual served their time, Congress does not have the authority to detain the individual longer. There is no power outlined in the constitution that would allow the government to do this. Since there is no power within the constititution, then this law and ruling by the Supreme Court is unconstitutional and illegal.

That's the knee-jerk reaction most of our politicians fall for and use when trying to get re-elected. Millions are likely not in PRISON on simple marijuana charges. Maybe a few are in county or city jails, but that's not where rapists of any ilk are sentenced. If you want the prison terms for crimes changed, then bombard your legislature. MEanwhile, if someone is given a term of 20 years, that's what it should mean -- not transferred to another prison like facility for an undetermined amount of time.

I agree with the first post on this thread -- if they are truly mentally dangerous they should be in a hospital type institution.

But it's done in Florida anyway and apparently the Supremes agree with it. And there's nothing solid about who they keep and who they release once their DOC time is up - it's based on the subjectivity of a couple of psyche docs who work for the state (guess the quality thereof). Some are released who've done far more heinous crimes than those they keep. IMO it's all about the $$$$ and politics. GEO gets something like $300k per year per "inmate" in the civil commitment program. Now some of these guys probably should be in a mental institution or should have gotten a life sentence in the first place. But there is something inherently wrong with further imprisonment after someone has already "done the time". Seems to be an ankle monitor would work just as well.

i agree....that's why i think they should get the death penalty. i believe that's still constitutional. if they cannot be rehabilitated, they should not be on the street.

As long as you and you alone are willing to pay for the perp..sure.

Better yet, call me sexually dangerous and send me cash to support my life on a tropical island for the rest of my life. Make it the same amount we spend for one lifetime prisoner and I'll be just fine.

A little troubled by this. Perhaps, their sentence wasn't stiff enough in the first place.

If the person is determined to be mentally ill, make the correct placement. Install a medicinal pump IN the person and let the medicine do its work, with no worry as to if the patient faked taking their meds.

Watch the ACLU, they will start working on this. They seek to rescind the LIfetime REgistry for Sex Offenders-there's a New England lawyer advising offenders in the northeast who is working with offenders who REFUSE to register.
http://www.onlinesentinel.com/archive/aclu-to...

Plus the ACLU also wants to get rid of restrictions on where offenders can and can not live.
http://www.theunionleader.com/article.aspx...

Our children are MORE important than these people. Work to keep these people away from kids.

WHO funds the ACLU?$11,000,000 in SALARY! Who funds them?!!??!

Do a little lateral thinking today and it will work wonders. Don't feel hidebound because you're supposed to do things in a certain way, because this is a great opportunity to try a different approach for a change. Even so, you may have to play down your unorthodox technique when talking to anyone who sticks rigidly to convention.
