Mr. Summers is correct, this is not going to be an easy one. I just hope and pray he wins this case for all Americans. God bless you Mr. Snyder

This Supreme court is owned and operated by the crazy Christian right-wing of the Republican Party. I'm sure they will see nothing wrong with other crazy Christian right-wing nuts terrorizing the families of those military folks killed in combat. If we get another president next who is even more simple-minded than Bush, you can expect a supreme Court that is even more Nazi-like than the five guys driving this anti-constitutional group.

Hey Woodstock, you're nothing but a worthless tree hugging hippie. How is it that someone who is all about rights and freedom can't respect the soldiers who give them that right? It's really a shame that you don't live around here, because if I ever saw you interrupt a dead soldiers funeral, I'd be the first person to knock your teeth down your throat. Get a life you POS loser, and have a little respect for those who defend the right for you to open your filthy mouth, or ability to comment online. Feel free to respond. Brian

Brian W. You are full of it. First of all, no soldier ever "gave" me my right to do anything....GOD did. You talk about knocking teeth down peoples throat. Why haven't you done that yet, big mouth? The Westboro picketing schedule is listed on their website so it should be pretty ez for a tough guy like you to track them down.

Since you're so knowledgeable about Westboro, I'm assuming you support what they do and stand for. Is that correct Mr. Word? I'm just curious. If you enjoy your freedom you should thank a soldier instead of mocking them. I can think of many countries over across the globe that have religious, christian believing individuals living within them where there is no democracy. This country was founded by people fighting for freedom. Maybe you should go to Mt. Vernon and piss on George Washington's tomb, I'm sure that would go over well. It's nice to know that I served my country protecting dirt like you. Get a life and get a clue. Freedom and God are not intertwined.

so why would they picket a 14 year old who was tragically killed in a car accident...whose dad was ex-reserves? the kids and family suffered enough. they didn't need these idiots protesting at her funeral. Westboro will rot in hell

i am surprised at the comments so far. Woodstock clearly needs to return to the third grade for an english class. a pre collage class would clearly be too advanced. Further "Christian " relgions know the Bible instructs us no to be a judge that is the Lords job. When we start condeming souls to hell we mae ourselves gods a major sin and offense to God's teaching. The Westboro Baptist church and I use the word church very liberally here has demonstrated time again that it is not a christian church. It has not demonstrated any of Christ mercy nor his consern for fellow human beings or their souls. Charity is clearly not in their teaching. Their protests are not welcome here because they reflec poorly on the churches here that are trying to save men by teaching God's wrd and forgiveness.

First of all, no soldier ever "gave" me my right to do anything....GOD did. Final Word, YOU are clueless! Obviously there is alot you haven't done yet, like deal with reality! If it weren't for those soldiers, you might not be here to bash them. As far as the article content and comment: Remember, powerful statements are often not popular statements, it su*ks but it is true.

If there is a right to protest a funeral - it should not be exercised; doing so is just wrong. This is where common sense should prevail - but I guess sense it is no longer common. Same applies to building a mosque at WTC site - if there is a right to do so - it should not be exercised. Those who do such things say more about themselves in their actions than anything else.

What kills me about this "church" and its supporters, are their quickness to use profanity and derogatory remarks. Aren't they being hypocrites? Yes they are. But they will certainly be the first ones to condemn another, without looking at themselves. They believe their actions and words are justifiable and don't like to be rebuked. They claim to know the Word of God so well but won't hesitate to "forget" that Message when someone lights a fire under their a$$. To this cult "church" and its supporters; Look in the mirror! "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." John 8:7.

Exactly dennis. It boils down to a lack of respect and values. They come as a wolf in sheep's clothing.

This case is really not about free speech, its about harassment. They are using fighting word, since when has this kind of speech been protected. Good luck Mr. Summers , I hope you are successful for all our sakes. Hang in there Mr Snyder, you are a hero to many people.

Mr Snyder -- I wish you the best. Funerals are private to those that love the family and the deceased. IT is not to be a place to make a spectacle for political gains. I wish you the best in winning this case in honor of your son and the rest of the military that serves our country. I am sorry you are going through all of this.

I am a Christian, but I disagree with your comments and I believe this church group is totally out of line. This is not the time or place to protest war. There are proper forums for such things. You haven't been to alot of churches in your life. Most people are peaceful, love and respect for people and the military.

God bless you Mr. Snyder It sounds more like you’re saying that you hope and pray that Mr. Summers wins this case for all Americans whose speech doesn’t offend you. A true victory for all Americans would be one that finds in favor of the WBC’s right to exercise their right of free speech, as repugnant as it may be. Inoffensive speech doesn’t need protection. There’s a lot of incorrect information on this thread, not to mention overt threats of physical violence, which are not protected under any constitutional provision. The emotions that many people bring to this case blind them to the legal issues involved. How many of you have actually read the Fourth Circuit Court's ruling on this case?

I suppose you might consider collage to be a somewhat complicated art form - more so than fingerpainting or stick figures, at least. By the way "nighy", if you're going to berate others about English, you might want to capitalize the word. You won't appear quite so ridiculous that way, and eventually you can work up to spelling harder words (like "college") correctly.
