It's quite obvious that Fred Phelphs has NO idea who God really is otherwise he would never say or do things like this. And to add insult to injury to that soldier's family....make them pay for Phelps' appeal....wake up Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals! I hope Mr. Snyder appeals the ruling and wins.

I dont care about amendments and freedom of speech, if they showed up at my familys funeral there would be big trouble. They should be banned from coming anyhwhere near these funerals!! How dare they insult the family or disgrace our soldiers..The judge in Virginia needs thrown off the bench too..what a piece of crap. This poor family. I wouldnt pay a dime..

Semper Fi! to the family. I wish there was a greater public notification of military funerals for supporters to attend. I see the funerals on the news after the fact and wish I could have attended. If we could create (Hint Hint - Fox News) a greater public notification to the public about up coming funerals I would call on all Soldiers and Marines to attend in such Great numbers that this jerk Phelps could be crowded out, and out of the families view.

These people make me sick and disgusted. What is happening to our country!? Somebody please wake up! These people have no clue as to what they are talking about or who God is. They are sick freaks, disrespectful, and so disturbed. I want to ask you people if you can prove these people are burning in hell? If you can prove that homosexuality is wrong? If you can prove that God really does hate homosexuals and America? I want cold hard facts none of your bull. If you do not like homosexuals then here is an idea LEAVE! no one is forcing you to be around it. These people need to read the Bible again because they clearly do not understand it at all. If anyone is burning in hell it is people like this, they should all be put in the nut house. If you people believe in God and what he stands for then everyone would be burning in hell, name some one you know who has not sinned, broken any of the ten commandments, or anything of that nature, and remember we were all born sinners, or to make this question easier name someone you know who is PERFECT. I ask myself all the time do you people have a life or even a soul at all. If you have a life at all then mind your own business and live it. Enjoy what "god has given you" and stop worrying about what other people do behind closed doors, and let God worry about it, if there really is anything to worry about. Another thing, if you freaks really are right about god, then i would rather burn in hell than go to heaven and worship a god that would automatically damn his own children for the way he made them.

This is disgusting! This group probably could care less about what's right and what's wrong... they just want attention! I'm sure God doesn't approve of such hateful and disrespectful behavior.

I get freedom of speech, I'm quite the fan of it. However, this judge should seriously be disbarred. Yes he has to abide by law, but it is his obligation as well to protect a moral right of a peaceful burial. A family should have the right to a peaceful ceremony and closure, regardless of any circumstances. Mr. Phelps is a very sick man indeed, and using his sickness in the name of god. My heart goes to the family that faces the fees and loss. Freedom of speech is one thing, crashing a funeral to damn one becasue of their personal or spiritual beliefs and lifestyle is discrimination and racism. I think Mr. Phelps should be charged with hate crimes for his actions.

Freedom of speech is one thing, but when it infringes on a family's right to grieve in peace there is something seriously wrong. Its a shame that more states don't have a "rest in peace" law. No family should have to witness these goons when they are mourning the loss of their hero. For the judge to rule that the family has to pay for court costs is adding insult to injury. What has our country come to?

I believe that what God truly hates is hate and intolerance. These are the people that will be cast away from the gates of heaven not the gay people.

I don't believe in any gods or any afterlife, but if I'm wrong and there is a hell, it's reserved for idiots like Phelps and his band of hatemongers.

Wow... thats a shame that there are people like this in the world. Its one thing to be a homophobe, but to cause a scene such as this, at a funeral! The one day that people can pay respects to someone who has died, gay or straight, and this is how they ruin it. It really is sad to that these ignorant closed minded people use god as a back brace. God doesnt approve of this behavior either so what justifies the right for them to do this? Wow... this is America? The land of freedom? HA! What a joke...

I agree 100%. And John I truly envy you in the fact that you don't believe in any gods or afterlife. My belief in God and fear of spending eternity in Hell has completely ruled my life. I often wish that I could break free from those beliefs and fears because things would be alot different in my life
