Not if shes looking for a career in law, that looks great. And besides if she gets enough money she won't have to worry about a job anyway. Power to this student. Most school adminstators have a chip on their shoulders anyway becuase they were losers in high school
Career in law my ass. She seems lazy. self-centered, and selfish, and she'll bitch if she has to work 15 minutes overtime at Wal-Mart.

I never said the principal did nothing wrong. All I am saying is the fact that although BOTH parties violated Libel Law here, the student committed it first.
Are you aware of what the prinicpal did AFTER the court hearing?

Yes and she was punished by the school administration. Haven't seen her suing.
She had no right to talk about a student like that. If I were the kids parents I would have sued for that. The principal is not innocent in all this.

The school administrator would have to prove that she is not a douchebag for the girls comments to be considered libelous, and from what I've read, she'll have one heck of an uphill batlle in doing so
the principal proved she was when she talked about the girl to a complete stranger she met online (via e-mail)

It's no wonder that educational administration is a shortage area. The principal should not have shared personal information about the student and has been punished. The student was inappropriate and was punished. Now we need lawyers and the courts? For what? A spoiled brat with enabling parents? Give me a break.

The principal portrayed vindictiveness
when she piled on the punishment (appolpogies in private, public AND prohibiting the student from running for office) when it was questionable whether the student even did anything wrong. Then she showed dishonesty by withholding the fact that the student won the election anyway as a write-in.(That info only came out after a freedon of information inquiry) On top of everything else she further attacked the student verbally, which led to the principal bring disciplined. Vindictive, dishonest, underhanded. With that as an example of leadership I'm amazed there is still a building standing on route 4 in Harwinton Ct.

Maybe it's time to restore our schools to the level they once attained.(I was a kid at one time and actually know where the states are in the US.) We need to dissolve the NEA as non-productive in supporting education. This happens all to often in schools that are run by these really stupid and untrained people. It is so obvious that the principal is a stupid person and shouldn't be in the job. Probably educated in our new schools that don't teach anything and think they have a right to abuse their captive students. GET RID OF THE NEA. We can't even fire people like this dumb principal due to the "protection" they get from the NEA. They act like children and then treat students like animals that can't fight back.

This case proves how insidious the erosion of our individual rights has been since Cheney took office(you don't really think Bush is the president, do you?) This girl did no more than call the administrator a name (sticks and stones?) and her high school career was damaged irreparably. A high court of this nation actually ruled against her. The fact that so many responses here are against this individual is scary. God help us.
Oh please! When will the far left wack job loons dry up & blow away??? So a snot nosed little girl got slapped down for running her childish mouth. Oh Boo Hoo!! Get real little girl! When mummy & da-da are gone...who do you think will back up your stupid antics when you become an "adult"??? oh & your looney liberal lawyer is only interested in making a buck sweetheart...

Sounds like a setup pure and simple. The judge should throw this out and hold the teenager and the Wisconsin man on charges for their setup. It is time that children and adults learn that there are consequences for your actions. This girls parents are probably liberal slime who think it is okay to say whatever you want about people and not be held accountable. They've let it go this far and have engaged an ambulance chasing lawyer to represent them. A lawyer with integrity wouldn't have touched this one.

Funny people that you take the lawyers word that personal information was shared, yet where is the proof? You take the word of a spoiled brat? You are as immature as she is.

Ain't that the truth!

But do you know what is really funny? Most of these morons are enjoying the FREEDOM (of speech) to SLANDER this teenager. How ironic!

You people with the negitive comments about this kid need to take a look in the mirror. Do you know what is looking back at you? A Communist! Because you're sure as hell no AMERICAN. A true American would side on the side of our United Sates of America Constitution and it's Bill of Rights that our once great country was founded on. You know....those freedoms that our solders fight for. I really hope you pathetic people do not celebrate Independence Day and Veterans day. You're not worthy!!

Please stop calling yourselves AMERICANS.

Avery fights for her rights to freedom of speech, but can't take it when the tables are turned? She, her mothers and lawyer need to let it go. They lost the first court case, so they bring another? Talk about sore losers.
They didn't 'lose' the first case; it never went to trial so your conclusion is clearly a legal misperception. They lost an injunction (immediate relief). It never went to a 'real' trial.

Then, they appealed the injunction, which they lost the injunction component.

As far as the libel suit, that's now due to new evidence of alleged wrong doing (violation of privacy rights), which occured when the principal emailed people about the kid.

YIKES, how much is this costing the school to defend.

Oh well, maybe they'll negotiate better in the future.

I guess you don't quite understand the United States legal system or the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution...the second this girl used the offensive slang to describe school administrators it was the first instance of libel. It doesn't matter if it happened at school or in her own house - you do not have the right to say anything you want.
It wasn't libel as the kid never wrote about anyone in particular when employing the adjective, "Dbag."

She said the "d*****bags in central office."

'Central office' is not a person it's an environment which represents authority, but can't be libeled.

Funny, everyone just assumed it was the Superintendent who fit the comment, which means to me the kid wasn't guilty of libel!

Conspiracy theory? Principal set up by a Wisconsin educator working in cahoots with the young girl?

You need to move out of your parents house and stop watching the X-Files in the basement.
