Avery fights for her rights to freedom of speech, but can't take it when the tables are turned? She, her mothers and lawyer need to let it go. They lost the first court case, so they bring another? Talk about sore losers.

"The irony is too overwhelming that Avery, at 16, made some ill-considered remarks and sent them into cyberspace, and she was punished relentlessly. The principal effectively does the same thing. Does she expect no consequences?" What goes around...comes around!

The lawyers are salivating over this one. Cha-ching! The Doninger family needs to get a life and move on. This is really over the top.

This young lady will be in for a rude awakening when she is applying for jobs in a few years and prospective employers do a Google search on her. Her litigous ways will make her radioactive in the working world.

The interesting thing about all these big claims that Avery wanted to be "reinstated as class secretary so she could give a speech at her class graduation" is that the class secretary doesn't give a speech. I went to Lewis Mills High School and all these indications that Avery was robbed of a chance to give some compelling speech are completely false. The class secretary that was elected in her place didn't speak nor has any other class secretary spoke at graduation. The right to a speech is reserved for the first and second in the class and Avery was neither. It seems that Doninger has turned herself into a mascot for free speech and has grown fond of the attention. That's the only reason I can see for bringing yet another lawsuit after her countless losses. She needs to get over herself and move on.

Once again, things are completely out of wack in Connecticut! If anyone has the right to sue for libel and slander, it would be the principal and the school district against this insubordinate little girl who is crying for not getting her own way!

Doninger's court proceedings make it seem as though she was robbed of a chance to give some compelling speech at graduation. However, this is completely false. The class secretary has never given a speech at Lewis Mills. I went to the high school and that is a right reserved only to the first and second in the class and Avery is neither. I find it apalling that she would push for court proceedings in order to give a speech she would never have been privy to. It seems that she has decided to become a mascot of free-speech in her own mind and thus has grown fond of the attention paid to her. She brings across a libel suit when she was lying in court seeking the ability to give a speech that didn't exsist. Nothing but a desire for more attention could be the reason to file yet another law suit when she has lost all her court proceedings time and time again. She needs to get over it and move on.

I take it you really don't know too much about this story.

This case proves how insidious the erosion of our individual rights has been since Cheney took office(you don't really think Bush is the president, do you?) This girl did no more than call the administrator a name (sticks and stones?) and her high school career was damaged irreparably. A high court of this nation actually ruled against her. The fact that so many responses here are against this individual is scary. God help us.

I hope she wins her lawsuit. What she says off of the school campus is her business. The way the school handled this is ridiculous. Your comment: "it would be the principal and the school district against this insubordinate little girl who is crying for not getting her own way!" Insubordinate? The school is not her employer. it is the other way around in the United States. Sorry but, we are not subjects of the Queen. The citizens are the kings and queens.

Considering what the principal did to her a few months ago she does have a right to sue.

It's time for her (and her parents) to move on.

In my opinion as someone who hires, it's a sign of strength to challenge on intellectual issues. If I was curious, I'd ask directly in an interview and/or ask references. There's much worse than someone was in a free speech lawsuit. Bankruptcy, terrible credit, criminal record- those are what I screen for.

She wanted the drama and got the drama. Additionally, as one of the individuals commenting against her I can state that I know Avery Doninger and frankly the saintly portrayal is media manipulation. You seem to think you know about government conspiracies, well this is the media portraying only one, biased side of the story. In reality she is an attention starved girl being led around by her mother. If the school district was such a problem for her, she should have moved. I agreed with a previous comment...good luck to her finding a job in the future.
