Now what did that have to do with the States failure to want to go the extra mile to teach our kids?

While Ct Banked an extra Billion Bucks last year they complained they didnt have the money to fund the No Child act? The State has plenty of OUR money Put it where its needed. Lets be Leaders in Hartford not complainers.

Am I wrong to question why no other states are joining Blumenthal and CT on this challenge? Is it because they do not fund their AG to grandstand and posture for their own personal future political aspirations? Those other AGs must be green with envy that their states don't have money to waste like CT.

I was very surprised to learn that in my town alone, the amount for unfunded FEDERAL mandates exceed $100K. If the federal government imposes mandates, then the federal government must fund said mandates.

The No Child Left Behind Act. Sounds good in theory, a measurement tool to ensure that each child gets an education based on a set of standards. Before this, how were teachers' performance looked at? Tenure and unions took care that ineffective teachers were able to stay employed and the children suffer. After this Act, teachers complain and resist about meeting a standard- again, the children suffer. What happened to the teaching vocation? I say that this Act needs to be reworked to be target driven and fed/state funded so that teachers can be performance managed; this is the only way our children will get the education they deserve and need to succeed.

The problem is that NCLB is ONLY good in theory. In practice, it forces teachers and students to spend at least two months out of the academic year focusing on standardized testing--of which most states already have plenty--rather than on real academic content. I'm all for teacher accountability, but can't we find a better way to do it than this? I'd rather my child get real value out of her education, and I don't think standardized tests are it.

The purpose of education is to develop a methodology that enables students to process data, apply critical thinking and better prepare them for life's challenges. NCLB is seriously flawed because it places excessive emphasis on standardized tests. Teachers, in turn, will begin to target and teach to the test (and little else) as this will directly reflect on their value assessment and financial compensation.
There are many issues (beyond the unfunded mandates) which rightly ought to be challenged. The greater issue is about maintaining meaningful control of our educational system and preventing the infusion of political agendas imposed by the federal government. Education, in our state, is vital to our present and future interests. We are not complaining for the mere sake of complaining. There are compelling issues being raised while legal points remain to be addressed and resolved. I am not the least bit ashamed to have Connecticut demonstrate a strong willingness to preserve its state’s rights and assure the integrity of its educational system.

Can Blumenthal do anything but file lawsuits? It seems like that is all he ever does. How about helping to solve the murder problem in Hartford?

Is there anyone in charge of Eternal General Dick Blumenthal? How much state money does he waste with these foolish lawsuits? It the only rationale about case selection and pursuit whether Dicky B will be able to get his mug on TV? Why don't we just buy him his own televison station, Dick 24/7 it may be cheaper than his relentless pursuit of cases that waste taxpayers money and only serve to get the AG some face time. His office should be the subject of some oversight.

The Federal Government does not fund a G.D. thing.

The giant federal and state tax siphons in the wallet of the middle class is what pays for all this garbage that liberals promote.

You have a second amendment friend. Get armed and make sure the murderer is wearing the toe tag and not the victim.

Don't wait for a liberal to solve anything.

Yep. I'm in the NRA and I ALWAYS vote.

What the article doesn't mention is how the AG screwed up in filing this lawsuit by not following the procedures available to him. The court never even got to the issues of No Child Left Behind. Good work, Blumenthal.
