Once AGAIN,the "Corporate Business Interests" wins out over the little guy. It's not the first time, nor will it be the last. Don't bother looking for any overall "Airline Reform" in the near future either. The Fed Gov't is in co-hoots with the airlines, the same way it is with other "Wealthy Business Interests". It's remarkable how a coporate giant would go to court just to avoid giving passengers the basic necessities during a flight delay. It just shows where the passenger priorities lie with the airlines.
No, actually it is a decisions between the states rights and federal rights, with little to do with "wealthy business intersts". The congress is the only body which can create laws concerning interstate commerce, not the states. Imagine, if you will, each state having different, competing requirements for the airline, or any other industry; what a nightmare that would create for business, which would affect consumer choice.

This only applies to stupid American carriers, if yo fly Mexicana and they get stuck on the tarmac, they will give you tequila until you pass out.

Did anyone ever ASK customers what the would prefer? I know the I WOULD have preferred certain amenities and would have payed a reasonable price. But the only alternative is to fly first class which is unaffordable for me.
I NEVER fly routes that I'm able to drive within twelve to eighteen hours because by the time I drive to the airport, park for a high fee, get into the airport, checked in, cleared security, board, wait, wait and wait some more, fly pinned to a seat that is not even sufficient for a normally sized adult, nothing to eat, nearly impossible to get to a restroom, no food, barely a beverage, get to the destination, wait, wait, wait get my luggage, transportation, get to my destination, my total costs to fly far exceed driving costs. That is even more true for longer trips if there are a number of people traveling together.
Since you're so bummed out about your job, I'm glad you're getting out. By the way, I work away from home quite a bit with similar inconveniences and probably for a lot less. But it's work that I've chosen to do that is rewarding.
When I have to take a longer trip, I'll continue to suck it up and go, but it's no bargain, no treat.
I completely agree

Most recently the pilot stated 3 times (over 35 minutes) that it would 5 or a few more minutes to fit a problem. Please stop doing that, just stay you do not know but typically it takes xx minutes and sometimes yy.

Amen. I think it's yet another tactic to keep the cattle captive. Nothing is worse than sitting in the (badly-designed) seats at the gate area watching the delay creep 5 or 10 minutes at a time.

When it turns out to be 45 minutes or an hour, it's pretty irritating to think you could have spent it quietly and comfortably having the dinner you wouldn't have been served in-flight and will now arrive so late that getting it after arrival is less interesting than just going straight to bed to recover from the long day/night at the airport.

I fly a lot and the only airline that charge for water is Spirit Air. They won't even give you a glass of toilet water to drink.
No cash, only credit cards.
Someone should do something about this.

Well someone can. Stop using this carrier and let the free market run them out of business.

When I fly, I do so to go from point A to point B. I do not do it to catcha a movie, get a drink, have a meal, or even to get nifty little bags of peanuts. Maybe it's just that I dont' expect others to cater to me like s spoiled three-year-old. I've had flight delays, been fogged in, etc, and somehow I'm still here.
You think you can get off a train any time you want? Or a bus? There are times when you wil not be allowed to debark.
Planes have been a source of sensitivity since 9/11; you know that. Security is key on a plane as opposed to most other modes of transport because no one has rammed a rickshaw into the side of a building and killed thousands of people. The first thing out of people's mouths was why didn't the airlines take greater precautions? Now they are, and people are complaining about that. Personally, I have better things to do with my time that complain that I wasn't treated like a prince on an airliner.
<quoted text>
It's not about being treated like a prince and it's not about being catered to. It's about being confined for 2..4..6..or even more hours on a PARKED airplane. How is returning to the gate at that point a security risk? If people choose to leave the gate area they have to go back through security anyway. This is all about the airlines maintaining a favorable on-time departure record at the expense of the passengers. And need I remind you that after going nowhere for upwards of 5 hours, those passengers are no longer receiving a service for which they paid top dollar? You're honestly telling me that they are not at some point entitled to disembark and seek alternate transportation?

The emergency slides do not automatically deploy; if that were the case, it would happen every time a plane debarked.

NOT paying top dollar is a major part of the cause of the problem. Airlines operate so close to the edge they do anything to complete a flight, no to mention the congestion at airports because everyone wants to travel at the same time..
