My husband started taking this and started losing massive weight and kept having horrible pain episodes, and the oncologist just bold face lied! saying it wasn't the zometa, when he quit taking it for 3 months he started to gain weight. Now they wanted him to keep taking it again, and he has been just awful sick and bed ridden with horrible pain and losing weight! I knew it was this damn drug! This is freaking criminal and his femur has been killing him!

Fosamax and other bisphosphonate osteoporosis drugs produce peroxynitrites which kill osteoclasts--cells that take minerals out of bones.
Through DNA damage, protein nitration, oxidation, lipid peroxidation, and cell death, peroxynitrites contribute to a series of other diseases, including esophagitis, esophageal cancer, jaw osteonecrosis, "brittle bones", atrial fibrilation, and Alzheimer's disease. All but the latter have been linked to bisphosphonate drugs. The evidence in regards to Alzheimer's disease is largely circumstantial: the number of reported Alzheimer's cases has increased by nearly one million people in the United States since Fosamax began to be prescribed in the mid-1990s. Women develop the disease more often than men and many of those receiveing osteoporosis drugs are women. The larger irony is that peroxynitrites just don't kill osteoclasts, they poison the brain, heart, esophagus, and even bones.

Although devastating, this is mostly true because a lot of people have been filing complaints. You can read more here http://www.fosamaxfemurfracturelawsuit.com/fo... .

Like any other medicines, side effects are inevitably present with Fosamax (Alendronate Sodium) intake. Fosamax is an oral bisphosphonate medication created to treat and prevent osteoporosis and other bone problems. However, it has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, wherein a group of people taking the drug have side effects documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine. Studies have also suggested that Fosamax could lead to the decay and death of other bones in the hip, knees or shoulder. The drug works by preventing bone turnover to reduce the risk of fractures. Talking about harmful medical products, Finally, ASR Hip Replacement Recall was implemented by DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., a subsidiary company of Johnson&Johnson. There are around 98,000 recipients of the ASR XL Acetabular System and the ASR Hip Resurfacing System worldwide. After the release of data presenting that these devices fail prematurely in one out of eight patients, the two devices were recalled. The manufacturing and marketing of these two devices started in 2003. The global recall of these products were announced in August 2010. It’s ironic that bisphosphonates are prescribed to those who are suffering bone loss yet they may be the main reason for bone depletion. Such medication may weaken the skeletal system, making the patient vulnerable to fractures. Fractures, aside from the pain, became more dangerous than its usual implication after the DePuy scandal took place, with the number of hip replacement failures and lawsuits that came thereafter.
