WOW a shocker ... a cable company under investigation over pricing. Typical FCC - a day late and a dollar short. Moron politicians

...."Digital delivers better service, clearer pictures and additional choices, which is why more than 89 percent of our cable customers receive iO TV.":

Of course it does, but it's more expensive, which is the point, isn't it?

Does anyone know why FIOS TV from Verizon still isn't available in Brookhaven? Cablevision sucks and I refuse to pay more for a box.

CV forces iOTV on its subscribers by takling away Family Cable channels for which they have already paid! You need iO at additional cost just to get them back. Talk about consumer fraud. This is a prima facie example.

Cancel your cable service. Try going without TV for a month (and then another). Let the cable guys starve (or come to their senses).

My house has been with no cable TV for four years. We borrow shows from the library or rent movies. It works.

The cable companies are making a fortune because everybody buys cable TV.

Internet and phone is available through Verizon and the cell phone companies. So, the cable companies can't charge that much.

As Bruce Willis said "welcome to the party pal". Cable companies have been ripping us off for years, that's why I went to a dish, twice as much TV for half the money.

Business as usual in crookhaven town. The Westies are paying huge bribes to the hacks on the hill; it is our duty to shut up and pay.

What the new Congress should do is to force the cable industry to offer ala carte cable.
Why should I be forced to take a dozen sports channels that I never watch?

Funny how the top of the story says that VZ is under investigation. But only at the very end -- after all the Cablevision propaganda -- you are told that Verizon's service is all-digital anyway. That also means they have more HD.

Think about the revenue they generate and do the math. Average customers (say 5 million) pay average of $50 a month, that's 250 million a MONTH. And for what? They give you a box and a remote, thank you very much, and where does the money go?
Well Comcast in Philadelphia just moved into their new building, which happens to be the largest building in the city. Not to mention they own the Flyers and Sixers, so I guess you could start there, and end with the Golden Parachutes.
And if you can't 'Curb Your Enthusiam' add another $10 to you bill. They should be regulated as a utility company.

I agree with Jimmy in Greenlawn. My husband and I live in East Patchogue and we switched to Dish Network almost 10 years ago because Brookhaven Cable was in the process of increasing their rates by 12%. No thanks!

We get more channels for less and we also get two out of state channels (Los Angeles, CA and Denver, CO). If we miss one of our shows here, we can always catch it on one of those stations. Plus, we get Sirius Radio with Dish. Can't beat satelite!

IO cost $10.99 more and you have to have a box to see it another $6.50 add about $1.51 taxes and that's $19.00 extra for getting those channels back. But alas in Crookhaven we don't have any other vendor except someone to put a dish on your roof.

Time to REGULATE these greedy cable companies! Cablevision is a colossal rip off because of their monopoly! What we need is REAL competition!

What everybody seems to miss is the fact that it costs $11.00 for a set-top box. That is 1 BOX PER TELEVISION!!! They do give a discount on extra boxes.

Most families I know have more than 1 television in the household (living room, bedroom, and maybe the kid's room), so that is AT LEAST $20.00 with tax for just 2 televisions!!!

If you "upgrade" to the digital tier, you have to pay for set-top boxes for EACH TELEVISION as well!!!

Another thing that is upsetting is that a lot of basic cable channels go to paid programming (infomercials) earlier and earlier, yet you can watch REAL programming on their digital tier counterparts!!!

Why do we have to pay to watch these half-hour commercials which is nothing but advertising when THEY pay to be put on the air?

I thought the whole idea of Cable from the beginning was to watch TV WITHOUT commercials. Now, all you get is commercials, and the volume goes up when the commercial comes on. Poor taste.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Pisces

Relationships are kind of shaky under this Lunar Cycle and you may even get the distinct impression you're heading for a major showdown with a certain someone. Although this feels like a crisis, don't let panic or desperation push you into decisions you would normally steer clear of. You may think you've reached the end of the road, but this isn't a good reason to go off the deep end and make drastic decisions. Proceed with caution!
