PG&E spokesmen speak like politicians. Trust 'um? It's another form of personal control & home invasion headed our way. California's Proposition 16 was defeated last June. PG&E invested millions in order to strangle any competition that might threaten their monopoly. Fred Nelson's KINS community comment yesterday (Friday) hit the nail on the head. California voters seem to need 'special' education about the information provided concerning propositions that show up in a their sample ballots and not money funded advertisements. With Moonbeam in & the return of current California's (D) political leaders back at the helm, we are all in real heap of doo-doo.

It would be cool if they make the data gathered per household available to everyone via a website so that we can all see for ourselves where the big indoor grows are taking place. The Feds would probably be interested too.

Why would I pay someone who is not taking care of the lines, for my power? I don't pay the leach on phone companies for my phone. I pay AT&T, because they are the ones who take care of the phone lines, heck they built them. Same goes for my power PG&E takes care of the lines, Gas and Electric. So why would I vote to pay some leach on company for power??? Duh.

I am SO glad that PG&E (and of course the government upon request, no subpoena needed) have access almost in real time to our energy use. This means we can more easier find the grow houses and even when people are at home so we can bust their sorry asses.
Oh yeah it goes lightly encrypted over the internet, so I guess hackers can bust their sorry asses too. LOL.

"Other customers are concerned about their privacy, saying that they don't want PG&E to know what kind of appliances they have and how and when they use them."
Are grow lights considered an "appliance"?

Eventually everyone will regret letting them install these meters. This is just another power grab. It will be fine at first, then, incrementally, they will change policies and your bill will go up if you want to use your appliances during the day. Criminals and Governments will be able to tell what you're schedule is and when you are home. See any problem with that? And don't tell me the information will be kept private. Where have we heard that before? There will be a direct line to Big Brother, you can count on that. Alex Stillman is another so called "green" marxist who is looking forward to controlling everything you do. The next thing you know there will be a list of "energy wasters" published in the Arcata Communist publications and you will hear statements like "That polluter does his laundry during the day" etc. Put a sign next to your meter to tell PGE that you do not want a spy meter. Once they are installed it will be too late. You can download and print a sign at http://www.refusesmartmeter.com/ I will buy the energy and use it for what I want, when I want. People should be able to opt out of the spy meters.

PG&E is doing this with stimulus money. Tax payer money, but PG&E feels they do not have to answer any questions from the people whom that money was taken. PG&E is doing this for one reason and one reason only, to make money. Anyone who believes otherwise lives in a fools paradise. When PG&E began installing the so called smart meter complaints flooded in about mistakes in billing. PG&E dismissed those by blaming the consumer or the weather. Out of thousands of complaints PG&E refused to concede that just maybe there were a few that were PG&E's fault. Later PG&E changed their stance and acknowledged that there was indeed a problem and started issues credits. Recently there was a PG&E employee who assumed a false name and joined a consumer advocate group that opposed the smart meter. This PG&E employee attempted to disrupt and side track the opposition of the smart meter. While one could say that a company the size of PG&E can't be held responsible for every worker I would agree. However, this was not just any worker, he was the head of the smart meter program, the number one guy. PG&E keeps referring to the FCC guide lines but will not release their findings as to their testing for safety expect to keep repeating the tests were within FCC guidelines. As to concerns raised when independent testing indicating that not all smart meters were with FCC guidelines PG&E stonewalled. The smart meter will be able to read and transmit which and when you turn on or use any electric device in your house. Someone, somewhere will be able to see just how many times to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. That same person will also be able to determine if your alarm system is on or off in your home or place of business. Think about that information falling into the wrong hands. Before allowing PG&E to continue, we the citizens of Humboldt county deserve honest open answers from PG&E.

As of yet it is not up and running.

PG&E is not your friend. as a former employee they have and do put the publics safety at risk. BTW the independt group that did the study was paid by PG&E not exactly unbiased. Two examples are the explosion of their gas line in the bay area a few months ago and their use of known toxins documentd in the movie Erin Brokovich. Their local nuclear plant it is well known within the company that they cwould cover up radiation leaks when it was running and there is a huge cancer cluster in the area surrounding the plant. Employees are punished for reporting and problems as well.
