Sitting out at Privates waiting for a wave...this was quite a site. A plane appeared to be flying away from the meteor as it fizzled up, which prompted discussion among the pack about whether we were being bombed, etc. Then a set came and everyone forgot about it...

ya thats one of the reasons that 911 has turned out to be a bad idea
ask any cop
you should see the geminid shower from 15000 ft up in the air
thats impressive

The Leonids are best known for their 33-year peaks, during which 100s of meteors per hour can be observed. The last of these peaks occured in 2001.
Parent Comet: 55P/Tempel-Tuttle
December
Geminids
December 13-14

Frequency:

The most reliable meteor shower of the year, the Geminids are characterized by their multi-colored display--65% being white, 26% yellow, and the remaining 9% blue, red and green.

I wonder if this was man-made. While in mid-town around that time I looked up toward the west after the sun had set. All of the clouds were pink/purple, but there was an irregular set of clouds still illuminated by sunlight when they should have been dark colored as the other clouds, indicating that the illuminated clouds were at a very high altitude. The irregular clouds appeared to look rather spiral despite their irregularness, with a conical shape, as if something emitting exhaust or heat which could condense water vapor to ice was moving with some thrust, but not in control. I observed a rocket launched from SoCal in 2001 in which the exhaust/con-trail was illuminated in this way: way above the light which hit the clouds in the lower atmosphere (as well as observing a stage of the rocket release from the ground - way cool). Who saw this? No people I was not whatever everyone in this area assumes I am was "on"...

Wait until Christmas eve. A few drunken idiots will call 9-1-1 to report sightings of Santa Cruz and his sleigh in the sky. Some dispatchers even play along and broadcast such useless information as a prank.

And no, it wasn't just the idiots in Santa Cruz who called 9-1-1 according to the KTVU newscast.

I saw one of the meteors a bit before sunset. I was near Dominican and it came down over the ocean. There was even a smoke trail for a few minutes after. It was cool.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Sagittarius

After all the excitement of the past few days you're longing for the chance to put your feet up and take life easy for a while. Ideally, you should bury your nose in a good book and be left alone until you resurface for a food transfusion. But you'll also enjoy chatting to someone you know very well and for whom you don't have to make a big effort, such as a close relative.
