Since you are going to restrict the field from all those element, you mine as well keep the old grass field. Since no one will use it except for football teams their damage to the field will be to a minimum. Just get someone to water it. What a waste Straford has become. What a joke witth their politcs and policy.
I guess the Relay cann't set up tents on the field next year.

I hope the council can sell Long Beach for $10 million and use that money to buy a protective dome for the Bunnell field to prevent punctures

"Committee members were not aware of the long list of prohibitions that would imposed at the new field," Branyan said. "It pretty much caught everybody off guard."
This seems to be a pretty widely used excuse in this town! Why is it that generally know subjects to other municipalities always are a surprise in the town of Stratford? How can there be surprises when you are spending $1.5 million of taxpayers money in these tough economic times?
"We don't believe there are any health concerns, most of those problems are associated with the old Astroturf fields," Henrick said.
So you were surprised by all the limitations but you are sure there are no health concerns even though the health department states more investigations need to be completed. Let me guess this will be a surprise, when one of the kids get sick or has an allergy to the field, also!
"The rules to protect the field just mean we're going to have to learn to adjust," he said. "Whenever there is something new it takes a while for people to get used to it. If people can't wear dress shoes, or high heels, and if we have to use different kinds of chairs, so what?"
Yeah so what! Lets spend $1.5 million then spend more money to buy special chairs and god knows what else they will need to protect the field. This is a great way to save money in these tough economic times. Glad he is the head of the council cause boy does he make some great decisions! Lets continue to spend ridiculous amounts of money on these projects and continue to curb the areas where the money should truly be spent!

Mike:

I am very sure that Stratford High would be more than gracious to have the Relay for Life group there.

If that were true, and Jim Miron really cared about the families and children of Stratford, he would have used his veto power to stop this project, like he did with the Long Beach West issue. Why didn’t he veto the council on this matter? He failed the children in Stratford, what a disgrace. Jim Miron is a dumb a$$ incompetent buffoon, and apparently so are you. Why don’t you worry about your hometown of Meriden dumb A$$.

Yet another example of the misplaced priorities in Stratford's town government and the Bunnell community. All knew full well access to the field would have to be restricted, but the importance of Bunnell football and band took priority over community events or non-important things like graduation. Typical Bunnell athletics arrogance.
Its a lie that the field is for the band... its not, the truth is the band is at the bottom of the list to use it especially for practices, the deal is if there's no one on it, then we can use it. Second, for all those who say that the rules are bs, then when the field needs to be replaced in 5 years or so, i hope they send you the bill and say i told u so. third, how would you rather see your money go; to a turf field ONCE, or to a grass field that thousands have to be spent on to maintain EVERY year and it's stll never back into the condition of the previous year. you people need to stop b****ing and learn to deal with it. it's too late now to go back, unless you want to pay to have it switched back and maintained every year. to show you what has already happened in preparation for the new field, there's is already going to be a SWC tournament on it, and that already means a few thousand for the school.

it is all a matter of being safe. they are going to be strict now because they want to keep the field as new as possible. eventually they will probably become more laxed and less stringent on the rules, but the "No Spikes" will always be. its like when people get a new car, you may say no food or drink in the car for the fist year, but after that most people don't really care. like i said before? would you rather the field last 5 years? or have it last 20 with a dozen or 2 rules? answer that question for me. also the "Health risks" with the rubber filler; since it is made out of recycled tires, i hope you dont drive a car since im pretty sure asfault gets hotter than a turf field, and tires dont melt to the pavement around here.

Relay for life can still set up on the areas outside of the field. Ask anyone who has been at relay for life setting up. It almost always rains and the field is so wet you can not stake a tent correctly.

Why not change the date of relay for life to the summer and have it at the beach? We have the field area from the mini golf to the recreation building for tent space. Easy to close it off to participants only. It would be a beautiful place for relay for life.

We live in New England, we do not get the temperatures that can cause the field to have health risks. That has already been proven, time to move on.

If you do not think Bunnell needed the field go ask for a copy of the football tapes from games and look at the mud pit. No matter how much they tried to preserve the field it would be a mud pit after two weeks into the fall season. That is a danger!!!

Check out: www.stratfordobserver.blogspot.com for real insight and discussion about Stratford. It's the propaganda arm of Stratford's regime, controlling information: news, entertainment, education, and the fine arts. Winston Smith works for the Records Department (RecDep) of Minitrue, "rectifying" historical records and newspaper articles to make them conform to Big Brother's most recent pronouncements, thus making everything that the Party says true
