Groups challenge EPA permit

Environmentalists and Navajo groups who have been fighting a proposed coal-fired plant on tribal land in northwestern New Mexico have appealed an air permit granted for the plant.

It's tribal land, so Navajo Nation has every right to say "No building yet, finish the analysis."

I think that maybe you are the whacko Bill, living in your ivory tower of conservatism in Santa Fe. Did it ever occur to you that the Navajo residents who live out there may have legitimate concerns over what this plant may do to their air and water quality? The project has been awash with politics from the start. Frankly, I'm not sure I like the idea of a 3rd power plant up there burning dirty coal, using water that already is in very short supply, and then sending the electricity off to LA, Vegas and Phoenix. And in any case, they have a right to object to the project and to file an appeal to the permit as provided by the laws of our country.
