Remember the white dust that was Davenport years ago? Many friends and relatives worked at the plant. Most were Italian. They have all lived out their life expectancy. Residents who bought homes in this area should have known. My suggestion hire Italians only..........

Perhaps the City of Santa Cruz should inspect they downwind of the dump as well as the water supply. |

Sounds like what a left winger would say. My children or myself will not get cancer over this. Go back to your medical marijuana. It amazes me, if you disagree with these left wingers, they get confused and start saying crap like laugh at someone who has cancer. |

The level of Chromium IV found is 10 times the level allowed by the state. You appear to be disagreeing with my post, Pamp, but I am in no way on the side of Cemex here. I do not believe that this will close the plant down, nor do I give any credence to the conspiracy theory (posted much earlier) concerning the railroad tracks. I think Cemex simply got caught with its pants down this time. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. That plant has always been such an unstoppable force locally...it's good to see them reined in a bit. |
This is sooo right. Cemex has not been using anything different due to these "hard economic times" its the same supplies they have always used. Its rediculous for these people to take this very small sampling of chromium 6 and making a mountain out of a mole hill so to speak. Don't you think that the employees that have been there for 15+ years would have shown health concerns? I mean its one thing to live near the plant, which I do, its a complete different thing to work there. If there was a health concern, they would be the first to experience it! SO, until the studies are completed all this speculation and crying wolf is only hurting our local economy further. |

You say i must have been dumb enough to buy a house in davenport which says to me you agree there is a problem with the air quality in that part of our beautiful county, but for your fourth generation information no i did not. My also 4th genertion family has lived on the westside for sometime now but since my amazing most beautiful daughter attends this school i find it my obligation to protect her lungs and the lungs of her friends and their families, so if you have a problem with that... why don't you make a donation to the N.R.A. and vote yes on off shore drilling, or ban gay marriage im sure this would make you feel really accomplished! |

Down with Cemex. People should only buy products from Graniterock. Graniterock cares about their employees and the community. Support a company that cares with your business.

|
No doubt about it, Graniterock is a great company. The problem here is that one cannot be substituted for another. Although Graniterock is in the concrete business, they are not a cement producer (cement is an ingredient in concrete). The Cemex facility in Davenport manufactures cement, Graniterock does not. |

Cemex is Graniterock's competition. I am sure Granite doesn't buy cement from Cemex. People in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties can get all the concrete they want from Graniterock. Cemex isn't need in these counties. Cemex employees can apply for work at Graniterock.
