Very intelligent comments.
Not too many people know the truth about Edison or Tesla or how Edison was pushing for DC street and home power. But distance to push DC vs AC is what killed his idea the deadest in it's day. As well as a better idea.
Anyone else have a good idea/theory to implement towards a solution out there, or just Al Gore/ GW Bush cracks.
It's all a Donkey & Elephant Show, so change the channel on them already.
Quit living in the lies.
A solution- no,an idea- yes...What if we were able to make the CFLs recyclable by instuting a DEPOSIT ??(much in the way we do now with cans and bottles) When they burn out, just take them back to point of purchase, the company that supplies the bulbs to the store picks them up when they deliver new ones, and then returns them to the company where they are manufactured. That keeps a lot of them out of the landfills, and gives the manufacturing company parts that they can use to make new bulbs-thus reducing the cost to them, and down the line to the consumers. Of course this would work best if the CFLs were made in the USA. Just a thought....Zim

In case some of you missed biology. Mercury levels only RISE in fish and mammals. The effects of the poisoning are cumulative. So that 'little' bit you inhale adds to the deterioration of your heath over the period of your life and is exacerbated by repeat exposure.

Very similar to eating game fish; the little fish contains a little mercury; the big fish eats the little fish. Over the lifespan of the big fish as it ingest mercury it stores it. When we catch and eat the big fish guess where the previously ingested mercury goes? Guess why pregnant woman are to refrain from eating game fish? Guess why SG informs us to avoid certain fish of certain size and eat only certain amounts per week; per year?

It's ok though, mercury won't kill you per se, and neither will getting hit by a car just a little.

Now, that is positive and refreshing!
One of several possible excellent solutions, including politeness.

BINGO !!!

I lived in Catasauqua for awhile.
Got a letter from the boro saying there is

" An acceptable level of gasoling in the boro water supply."

We used bottled water.
Interestingly , none of the boro employees lived there.

" an acceptable level of gasoling in your drinking water" ..........yeah

How do you know if you have ingested to much mercury?

When the local TV and radio weathermen look to you to get the accurate temperatures for their news casts.

Yes the new compact fluorescent bulbs have some mercury in them, so did the original regular fluorescent bulbs! Few people made a big stink about that, so why worry too much now about CFLs?

Remember when they were convinced that chlorinated water caused cancer?
10,000 people died and over a million were sickened with cholera after Peru stopped chlorinating their tap water. Ooops.
In the the DC area, they switched from chlorine to chloramine. This unfortuately caused lead to leach out of the pipes. Ooops.
These are not the only problems. It has been known for years by Industrial Hygienist and Toxicologist that amine containing compounds (such as chloramine) contribute to bladder cancer (Ooops, again!)I wish these liberal, ecomaniac do-gooders would stop trying to make everyone live forever. They are only complicating and perverting honest science to suit their causes.(The truth plays no role in presenting their "facts" if they are trying to "win" a cause.)

Well, Tank, whose fault is that?

Dr_C, it is silly to refer to wanting some form of chlorination as a "liberal" program - all advanced societies chlorinate (or equivalent) public drinking water to hold down bacteria. What, are you so "conservative" that you'd like to go back to early 19th century London will people dropping all around from Cholera?
