Yes. There is no other way. Taiwan needs energy, and nuclear is the only way it can produce the energy it needs.

Can Taiwan follow Germany’s nuclear lead?....
http://taiwantoday.tw/ct.asp... Germany recently set a target for the complete decommissioning of nuclear power by 2022. Some political parties in Taiwan have proposed a similar goal, emphasizing that the country’s fourth station should not be activated once completed. Although Germany has maintained a nuclear-free homeland policy for some time, last September this changed, permitting existing plants to operate until 2036. Less than a year later, eight nuclear power stations have been temporarily shut down with 2022 being set as a new target. As a result of this policy shift, Germany, originally an exporter of electricity, has to rely on nuclear and coal-generated power from France and the Czech Republic respectively. In April, the country imported 500 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. French Energy Minister Eric Besson believes German electricity will become more expensive and increasingly obtained from fossil fuels, increasing greenhouse gas emissions. This source is no substitute for nuclear energy, which is the best option for providing baseload electricity. U.S-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology is also concerned about Germany’s power policy, warning of shortages this winter in the south of the country where five nuclear stations have closed. Compared with Germany, Taiwan’s electricity supply has a number of shortcomings. Its grid is isolated ruling out foreign purchases during shortages, and the price is too low. At NT$2.73 (US$0.09) per kilowatt hour, 266 percent less than that charged in Germany, Taiwanese would find it difficult to stomach the German rate. Renewable energy, long championed as a solution to the nuclear conundrum, is not a straightforward choice as many believe. These systems need space, which is at a premium in densely populated and mountainous Taiwan. In addition, green energy costs more than traditional sources. To produce the same amount of electricity, a wind farm requires three times as many generating units as its nuclear counterpart, while solar stations need six. Another downside of renewable energy is maintaining stable generation. When it is windy or sunny there is overproduction of energy, but when the weather is unfavorable supply does not meet demand. This requires backup power from conventional plants. Although Taiwan currently has some idle power stations, this is a result of the financial tsunami and central government policies promoting energy saving and carbon emission reductions. In the long term, however, power demand will increase in step with economic growth. For instance, last year Taiwan’s economy grew 10.88 percent and, despite a 3.3 percent energy efficiency improvement, demand for electricity jumped 7.58 percent. Government planners estimate that power shortages might occur by 2014 if Taiwan does not activate its fourth nuclear power plant in time. TAIWAN IS AN ISLAND! WE ARE NOT GERMANY! There's enough Uranium in the oceans to fuel the economies for a few million years. The technology to extract it is already available. So, for the next few thousand years it will have to be nuclear power for mankind.
