'We got walloped'

Full story: www.politico.com

Two big questions loom in the wake of the 2009 elections. The first is whether Barack Obama learned anything new about American voters. The second is whether American voters will soon learn something new about Obama. For a president who likes always to convey confidence and cool, the returns will test his willingness and capacity for self-critique and self-correction. So far, Obama’s White House has responded to the results — flaming defeats for Democratic gubernatorial nominees in Virginia and New Jersey, along with better news in the N.Y. 23 special congressional election — exclusively with self-justification.

Mark Warner was right! Painting the picture a different color doesn't alter the fact that people are unhappy with the direction of things. More election like this to come unless the CHANGE people really want is considered before the far left vision for the country.

As a republican, I did feel like I got punched in the face after seeing the results of Tuesday's elections. Just 2 governers seats! How does that help our cause? We needed NY23 and Calif.state representatives to go to republican, not Democratic. Why do I have the feeling of up-coming doom for republicans in 2010?

Also under the care bill.
Medicare will be cut back.
Which means Seniors are not just paying for Medicare from their SS checks which is deducted each month, they will have to up their suppliment insurance coverage to cover their medical expenses.
Looks to me that insurance companies win and Americans loose.

In typical contemptuous fashion, the White House downplays the elections and ignores the obvious: more and more Americans aren't liking the direction this administration is taking us. They got walloped, but is Obama listening? Nope.

We've been under the republican plan for the last 200 years. That's why America's hospitals, doctors and research universities are considered the best in the world. Even by the UN.

Yes, the Democrats got Walloped, and they "ain't seen nothin'" yet. The Republicans didn't need the NY-23, because it was a third party candidate, and third party candidates rarely are elected. They need to take back Virginia, they did, and they needed to beat the corrupt Democrat Corzine in N Y, and they did that as well.

Any plan that does not lower cost for all Citizens is just another empty effort. None of the Washington crowd even need insurance..they do not understand any of this. The whole thing is about COST..not who pays!

Laddie, the Tea Party is just beginning. One of the planks of those pesky non serious tea party people is ....HONESTY....Another is to greatly reduce....CORRUPTION....There are more, but you have those know it all smirks and laughs that beg to be taken to the wood shed. There are many things in common from people of both parties. But the insane ones rule in a land where milk and honey has its limits.

doesn't the growth of a movement usually mean there are some signs of growth? beyond the wishful thinking.

...."The tea partiers are launching the revolution. This week. But will anyone actually show up?

On Sunday, Rep. Michele Bachmann challenged viewers of Sean Hannity’s Fox News show to join her last-ditch attempt to kill health care reform. The fiery Minnesota Republican plans to hold a press conference at "high noon" on Thursday. She urged Americans to flood the halls of Congress that day, find their elected officials, "look at the whites of their eyes and tell them,'don't you dare take away my health care.'"

Since then, so-called tea party patriots have been burning up the Internets trying to rally supporters to attend Bachmann’s event. But so far, their efforts haven't amounted to much. The official Tea Party Patriots website laments that Bachmann’s rally is being stymied by a "media blackout"—meaning that mainstream outlets like the New York Times and the Washington Post have ignored it."....

...."As of Tuesday afternoon, the official tea party website indicated that only 25 patriots were on hand for "Operation House Call." That’s a pretty paltry showing for an organization that claims to represent millions of disaffected Americans. Bachmann’s rally on Thursday could be a different matter—but probably not because of the tea party patriots.

Ever since the inception of the tea-party movement, it has been dogged by accusations that it is really an astroturf operation—a fake grassroots uprising fueled by corporate-funded front groups. Organizers maintain that the phenomenon is an organic expression of anger by ordinary citizens. At their big September 12 gathering in Washington, protesters chanted "not Astroturf" in response to charges by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that health care town hall protests had been engineered by corporate-backed PR firms. Yet, like the town hall protests, Bachmann's "high noon" event and the preceding lobbying efforts are getting a big boost from FreedomWorks, the organization headed by former GOP House Majority Leader and lobbyist Dick Armey. FreedomWorks grew out of a tobacco industry front group and is now funded by big corporations.

FreedomWorks has started a new website called dontkillgrandma.com to help defeat health care reform. And it lays out quite a schedule for this week. Freedom Works suggests that on Wednesday, "patriots" organize vigils in front of their local congressional offices at noon, where they should read from the 1,900 page health care bill. And dontkillgrandma.com urges protesters to start chanting "Kill the Bill!" in unison at midday on Thursday. Presumably, Bachmann will lead such a chorus at her "high noon" event.".....

i'll be keeping a watchful eye on the "protest". i'm just sure there will be some heady attendance figures to report back to you guys.

"No, it's not an astroturf movement!"

yeah right.

"In a profile in the upcoming New York Times magazine, former House Majority Leader Dick Armey touts his role through his FreedomWorks group in watering down health care reform and says "pretty soon it's going to be about cap and trade, which is another big Democratic power play."

In the interview, Armey reveals that he doesn't personally believe the "death panels" myth but he isn't too bothered by such hysteria, on display at town-hall rallies promoted by FreedomWorks. Despite the fact that the group launched a website called DontKillGrandma.com , Armey dismisses concerns about such lies. "Are their fears exaggerated? Yeah, probably. But are Obama's promises exaggerated? I may think it's silly but if people want to believe that," Armey says, referring to death panels, "it's OK with me."...."

when asked, axelrod dismissed the the 2 gubanatorial elections as "local", and the ONLY election of consequence was the 23rd district house election...
and, he did it with a straight face!

it's obvious to MOST of washington, siding with obama offers ZERO protection ...

As a conservative I am encouraged despite the way the NY Republican leadership was running around like chickens with their heads cut off. As a Republican I was disgusted, we were our own worst enemy.

You don't get it. It is the votes. Both parties are corrupted and dead. There are multiple wings from both sides as they extract from the "suckers". That is us. Ollie North is one of them. A true American hero who was designated to do the same thing again to save us all. Newt is a globalist. Armey is backed by lobbyists. Palin had to be okayed by AIPAC befor she was accepted as a vice presidential candidate. I do not believe anything. And when you see your taxes keep rising even if you are living better then your grand parents, you think there is something wrong with this. that someone else is being killed or not living as well because a lady who parrots villages...lives off those same villages while they are suffering and dying. And we believe this bull because there are two parties. Well the party is reached its zenith in the last couple of years and now is in the downhill portion of its lifespan. Government is slowing the death knell down. The only question is...WHO WILL BE THE WINNERS AND WHO WILL BE THE LOSERS IN A MUCH LESS WEALTHY AMERICA? And when that is determined what will be the response of those who lose!
