So, it's not that Baker is innocent or that Torrance PD put a false case on him. It's just that Torrance PD was trying to protect their informant from being identified.
Eh, Baker won't be out for very long. He'll get caught doing something again.

Ok, the drug dealer is a POS that should rot in jail.
I think that a cop who lies under oath or on a report is
even lower than the drug dealer. When the police break the law,
there is no law. If this story turns out to be correct, the cop
should do time in jail…

For those of us in Torrance, the TPD is what keeps the line between safe and unsafe. Thank you TPD, and keep up the good work. Also could not agree with Kore Vet more, now that we have a Socialist in the WH, it will be free the criminals and tax the hard working Americans.

The LA Times story has more depth - the TPD actually fucked a case that the Feds were persuing against the Grape St. Crips and it was so easy to beat the case that an asst public defender won it. So Baker won the case using taxpayer $$.

BTW Kore Vet, the arresting TPD officer was Rehan Nazir. Have any racist remarks about him?

Its not good work when they are too stupid to report facts and not clever enough to seperate their informant far enough from the arrest so that he can be kept secret.

Remember that 'the good work' they do when taking shortcuts are in violation of the same consititution that protects every one of us.

When a crook is let off the hook because a boneheaded officers violates the constitution it is not done for the benefit of the crook, it is done to preserve the constitution - for each of us.

Take a civics lesson and demand them demand the officers (who get paid about $100K a year) not lie and follow the rules.

Hopefully the TPD addresses this embarrassment internally.

i agree with "west torrance resident". i don't think the cops should lie under oath ever. my past experience with tpd is that basically they make their own rules and are pretty shady themselves. i'm not saying that the whole entire force is corrupt, but there is definitely a number of them who definitely make up their own rules as they go...

Bottom line, the TPD is an excellent police force, simply look at the crime figures per capita. For the location and size of Torrance, we are lucky to have them defending our streets. Dont think so, or want to make one situation into a mountain to shame them? Then move to Lawndale, Hawthorne, Lennox and see what it is like.

So easily people will bash TPD, but have no problem calling them when needed. I'll take your statement with more respect if the next time someone is breaking into your house, stealing your car, etc etc , you handle it without police help.

You know darn well the TPD is the best force in town and that is why other police officers try to get in here. Also, for you 100K a year, bs, Captains dont even make that kind of $$$, the rank and file with OT maybe 70K if lucky (not so good for putting your life on the line everyday).

I believe it is called a "Wall Stop" and has been legally used for years. An investigative team gets information that a car will be conducting illegal activities of some sort. The investigator will give a patrol cop the vehicle information and ask him to do a 'wall stop' if he can find probable cause to make a legal stop (i.e. broken taillight, stop sign, tinting, etc)usually unrelated to the suspected bigger offense. If the officer does a good investigation, he may or may not find what the investigator was looking for. If nothing is found, the guy gets a ticket and the informant and investigation stays confidential. If it is found, the guy goes to jail, based on the traffic violation and investigation. The supreme court said that was just fine years ago. Baker is still ruining kid's lives, for a litle while longer.

Manure.(If that were true, then Torrance would be less well paid then any other department in the South Bay.) And enough with the "life on the line" garbage, check the CDC. For putting your life on the line, take a job at 7/11.

It's not clear from the piece what exactly was falsified. The why is even less relevant. California cops are the best paid and supposedly the best trained in the country. The last thing these "professionals" need to do is lie and falsify reports so that some criminal goes free.

We are paying for the best, shouldn't we get it.

The president committed the largest act of socialism by signing the bail out. Why aren't you whining about that socialism, hypocrite?

On the tangent of you inferring that Obama is a socialist, you need to read up a bit more on political theory. Obama is far from a socialist.

BTW, did you know that surveys consistently show that citizens in socialist countries with high-tax rates live longer, are happier, and have an overall better quality of life compared to lower-taxing contries such as the U.S.?

Try getting away from labels and look at things objectively.

Would this be the bill that Congress (Democrat controlled) put before him? Funny, you did not mention that part of it, or that the Democrats want to give private auto company (GM, Chrysler, Ford), billions when they have no plan how to use it (you forgot to mention that Obama supports and Bush does not). Is it not the Democrats this week who said Health care for all, regardless if they are legal/illegal or can pay for it. Funny, the left only puts out what fits their schedule.

Pefect example, while the socialist liberals were pushing Bush's low rating, they forgot to mention that CONGRESS was below his rating score in the single digits. Funny, bet if Congress was all Republicans they would not have forgotten to mention it and the liberal media would not have forgotten to report it.

Bottom line, the officer only changed a statement regarding the confidential informant to protect that person. Right/Wrong? not sure, but what most of you fail to mention when trying to defend this criminal is that he is still up for Federal warrant on PCP sales.

What a fine outstanding citizen we are about to dump back into the neighborhood where our children play.

But the best part...I bet he does not come back to Torrance, maybe to your city, but not mine. Good luck.
