Since the police already check the NCIS everytime they stop someone, what was the need for this new program that has caused so much turmoil?

The problem with the immigration issue is that no one seems to care about all the people who have been waiting for years to enter this country legally like my parents did. The media has done a wonderful job of confusing illegal and legal immigration. It would be wonderful if that confusion would be clarified in the media and in the public perception of immigration. That wages have been reduced by the stream of illegal immigration has been documented in a large number of studies as many unemployed US citizens can confirmed. Illegal is illegal no matter what the cause if we are to maintain a country of laws and people!

DANBURY -- For Danbury police, the partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement isn't really new. It merely formalizes a relationship that has existed for years, Chief Alan Baker said.

But for the city's immigrant population, many who are in the country illegally or who have not completed the process of becoming legal residents, the plan adopted by the Common Council last week is a reason for concern, according to community leaders.

"'People are afraid they are going to be stopped for a traffic violation, the officer is going to see they are illegal, and they are going to get deported,' said Silas Avila Jr., editor of Palavra, a Danbury-based Brazilian magazine that circulates in the tri-state area."

I'm sorry -- I'm having a hard time seeing the problem here.

If you're committing a traffic violation AND you're in violation of immigration law, you SHOULD be deported.

Move to Waterbury or Bridgeport! Don't you illegal criminals get the hint yet? You are not welcome in Danbury! Danbury is a home of law abiding citizens, not a place were dirty South American criminals can live and steal our city services.

The best advice the leaders could take back to their community, the chief said, is not to break the law!!!
Well said Baker....

The only reason they don't understand this is because they don't want to understand -- they want to whine about illegals being uncomfortable. Illegals pulled over for an infraction or found out any other way should be detained and deported. Why aren't they explaining why they are NOT doing this to the American People instead of babying the illegals.

'The best advice the leaders could take back to their community, the chief said, is not to break the law.'

They are here illegally, which means they have broken the law.

Lets hope the illegals are getting the message loud and clear, that illegal aliens are not welcome in Danbury and will be subject to deportation if caught committing any further crimes.

"The detectives will be working with ICE to investigate human trafficking, narcotics smuggling, gang and organized crime activity, money laundering and sex crimes, Baker said."

Wow sounds like something good police work can uncover. This should have nothing to do with ICE. ICE is just a scapegoat for Boughton. He will end up ruining this city. Cant wait for the hitler syndrome to kick in.

Brewster and other surrounding towns are beginning to implement this as well...

If you are here legal by status of proper documentation then what is the issue.

The problem I can bet on is that one legal documented worker may be bringing in undocumented workers (like family and friends) and they are hoping to just blend into society...

NCIS - then you get bail, get out and disappear.

ICE - you get arrested and deported.

Let 'em go to Waterbury, Bridgeport and New Haven. Those cities will wake up soon.

Illegal is illegal.

Haven't they already broken the law by entering the country without being documented? Oh I forgot that law is not inforced.

Thank you Mayor Boughton and the Common Council who voted for this partnership.

Thank you standing up for the rule of law for the legal residents of Danbury, and each one of you for your outstanding leadership!

Listen people, if you break the law you should be punished this is normal in any country all over the world.
I don’t care if you came from Brazil, Equator, Mexico, Guatemala, etc…
You do not carry Car Insurance that means you should pay a price for it.
Can’t you imagine if somebody that is driving without a license or insurance hits you, you go to the hospital.Who is going to pay the cost?! Yes you will pay no matter what, may be you loose your house, your assets, etc…
All these business that are complain about this situation, if you do not like Danbury move to another city. 20 years ago Danbury did not have illegals or drinking drivers behind the wheels, Danbury was beautiful and clean, please go to Bridgeport, Waterbury, any place. But if you want to live here, please comply with the laws.

I myself don't see any reason to go out of the way to assuage people, patting their heads and telling them not to worry.
I mean, either the city is serious about not allowing illegal immigrants to continue to take advantage of this messed up situation, or it's not.

ICE was the first step. Now the people of Danbury will begin to demand work place enforcement.

That's the next step. It will be effective too.

Illegals are upset because their kids are being educated in Danbury High School and they may be found out?!? You mean I pay for your kids education, you pay NOTHING, and you are upset!!!

Those of you who want to argue the tax end of it..An illegal alien does not file his state/federal taxes (or would be found out). Can not register an automobile because he has no documentation = no property taxes. This means they ARE NOT CONTRIBUTING TO THE SCHOOL SYSTEM. But they are using it.
