Hmmmm Let's see. The disease has been around for about 25 years. It's WIDELY known what the risk factors are. It ABSOLUTELY IS a 'gay' disease, spread predominantly among gay males, drug users, and those who have unprotected sex in some form with those first two listed. Yes, it has crossed the gender border...but it is NOT A HETEROSEXUALLY DRIVEN disease! If it was, then the teenager group would be EXPLOSIVE with cases....yet, out of ALL KNOWN CASES through 2006, they make up less than one half of one percent! Want to avoid HIV/AIDS? Don't have unprotected sex with a black or hispanic male, or with a black or hispanic female known to associate with gay black or hispanic males......or do any kind of IV drugs with the above! It's just that simple.

I am truly disgusted with all the Hyperbole that continues with HIV. The real disease spreading faster and more contagious is Hepatitis-C. You can actually be an innocent victim of Hepatitis-C and never know it till it is too late. Little or No education goes to this fast spreading disease, that has even infiltrated into infecting HIV recipients. Hepatitis-C is spreading through-out America faster then HIV. HIV can actually be controlled better with individual responsibiltiy, but Hepaptis-C can be transferred to others without either party even knowing they did so. Political Correctness is infecting America far worse then you may suspect.

It's just that simple. Wow, are you serious? How about don't have risky behavior with people who may be exposed. Do you really think that it's really a minority disease? I work at a HIV clinic and most of the gay males that are seen are white. Is this because they have better health insurance than the lower income minorties? Maybe. Is this because they may be more responsible and are not afraid to get tested or live in denial? Maybe. Statiscally you may be correct, but to blatantly call it a gay or minority disease is totally wrong. Come spend a day in our clinic and you may be compelled to change your mind. How about the HETEROSEXUAL healthcare workers that get exposed? Are you saying that everyone should stay away from them? They are exposed to HIV on a daily basis. Are you not going to see a doctor or nurse because they have a high risk job? A lot of good people have been infected by irresponsible people and there's no way of knowing. Maybe you should get tested if you're so sure of yourself, you never know.

Hummmm, sorry to clue you in, but if your significant other has been telling you that "sex is a poor man's recreation" it's an excuse for not doing YOU, and they're probably getting it somewhere else. If it is statistically right how can it be wrong?

Maybe you should get tested if you're so sure of yourself, you never know. You've asked questions...that's nice. No go research the statistics. STATISTICALLY, it is a gay-male related disease and one also (almost equally shared) among IV drug users. If you want to (statistically) avoid it....you stay away from gay male activity, women who are sexually involved with such, and IV drug users. The % of white vs the statistics could be a number of factors as you mentioned...better health care...or perhaps just your location (white neighborhood?) My point is based on statistics.

Ignorance is rampant, and certainly not limited to Alabama. Point is, if you are not in a monogomous relationship of many years standing, then use protection when having sex. How difficult can that be? The local health department is your source for free condoms, so instead of finding fault, let's all protect ourselves so that this disease does not spread. Fact is, more heterosexuals than homosexuals now have AIDS, and I'm talking world-wide. So protect yourself each and every time, and you'll stay healthy.

It's just that simple. Well, with public health messages like this, it's no wonder we still have an epidemic. One question, are you related to the liberals hate facts from Kissimmee? Or is it just a statistical likelihoood that anyone who uses that name is an idiot? Let's clear somethings up here. Yes, Men who have sex with men (MSM) are a high risk group. Anal sex (even for women) always increases the risk of HIV transmission because of membrane tearing. The person who receives semen into the body (male or female) is always at a higher risk for catching HIV. So, a female who engages in anal sex is also considered at high risk activity....this is what the CDC considers high risk heterosexual activity. Yes, minorities do have a higher rate of HIV. However, I have treated many white patients with HIV/AIDS. And guess what, many HIV+ patients look just fine and are professionals and heterosexuals. You would never know. Teenagers tend to use condoms. Since teenagers are having sex within a closed group (each other), there are very few infected teenagers and therefore, they can't infect each other with what they don't have, even if they don't use condoms. It's not until people get older that their social circle really widens. Trust me, go to a high school, nothing but little cliques. You're right to suggest people shouldn't engage in high risk behavior. However, you're an idiot to suggest that it is only certain groups who pose a risk. Every one is at risk who has sex outside of a monogamous relationship.
