As You See It, Sept. 3, 2010: Fiorina has no real plan for moving s...

Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

In Wednesday's Boxer vs. Fiorina Senate debate, it was strange to see how Fiorina repeatedly refused to answer a direct question with a yes or no about Proposition 23, which would repeal the California Clean Energy Act, and indeed Fiorina tried unsuccessfully to equate supporting clean energy with supporting terrorism.

The biggest problem with California is not that it isn't moving into the 21st Century, but that it degraded during the final part of the 20th Century. Sometimes, moving is not the best thing to do, if you don't know where you are going.

Ever watch soccer on TV? It appears that all of the players are always moving, because the camera follows the motion. But in reality, most of the players do not move much, most of the time. If you are in a good spot, there is no reason to move. Compare that to amateurs, who run around like mad chickens.

Marilyn, thank you for the information about non-complying access issues at the stroke center. Able bodied people parking in handicapped spaces deserve a huge penalty. Get the license number, time and date and call the police. Is there not a private security guard on that site empowered to ticket cars not displaying a handicapped card or license plate? Ask at the stroke center..report it to someone who will correct each issue.

Vote Boxer OUT! She's had her chance, she's responsible for many of the issues our state faces. Time for her to step aside.

This is good advice and should be done immediately. Perhaps Marilyn does have the plate number and can still inform the proper officials. This is as bad as the mail carriers who use one of the very few handicapped spots in the medical complex behind Dominican.

James Green, so apparently you think Barbara (don't call me ma'am) Boxer is still the answer? How many times do you have to be insulted before you realize that you've been taken to the cleaners? Boxer has been in office for 28 years and what has she done? You can't just pick one or two things and call that an accomplishment. Its also a fact that she continues to vote for big spending and taxes. Take a look around at the economy James, a good look around and for once stop the blame game and you'll see the fruits of Boxer's labor. Don't you ever ask yourself why these Democrates vote as a block? Doesn't one of them have a different opinion? It is painfully clear that the majority party doesn't know what they are doing and they don't know how to get us to a recovery path. Actually I think the Democrates do know what it'll take to get us to a recovery path but since it's a Republican idea they just won't agree. It's a crisis they don't want to waste and they are going to keep spreading the wealth and pain until they are stopped which I think will start in November.

@Marilyn
Was the renovation work done by or for the City of SC? If so find out if there were plans and a permit (though City doesn't legally need any permit). Find out who the inspector was.

Peter Haworth: You're just parroting the old talking point about the 2001 CDC support for fluoridation, but how about the 1999 opposition expressed by the union of EPA scientists? There are two positions in this mattet, but Freedom of Choice trumps them both. Do I want chlorine in my water? Yes, it kills bacteria and definitely saves lives. Fluoridation? Its results are debatable, and the only definite benefit is to the bottown line of fertilizer and other chemical companies who instead of having to pay for the disposal of the hydrofluoisic acid by-product of their industry are able to sell it to cities for disposal in our children.
And something not yet reported in the Sentinel: The City of Watsonville received a letter dated Sept. 1 from a Stefan Cajina of the California Public Health Department stating the city will be fined $200 a day effective Sept. 30 if it doesn't submit to fluoridation. Forced medication, here we come.

For all the years Boxer has been in the senate, just try to come up with a piece of legislation with her name on it. Her only purpose has been as a "rubber stamp" for a far left agenda.

The only thing I can remember is when she earned the nickname "Barbara Bouncer" for misuse of government funds in her checking account.

She is definitely the wrong person to lead us out of the fiscal mess we're in, unless the only growth you want is in the national debt.

Regarding the Senatorial debate: There are six candidates running for that office, as listed on the ballot; only two debated. Voters need to be educated about all of their choices, and break free of the two-party ruling syndicate. I do agree that Boxer needs to go (her "sell-by" date passed years ago). But just swapping a GOP pol into that seat won't really help fix our situation. Please take the time to find out what you can about the alternative candidates on the ballot. If you find one who seems competent to do the job, please invest your vote in that person. The Democrat and Republican parties prove every day why they don't deserve our trust. Turn elsewhere.

Regarding fluoridation: I love how people pushing fluoridation challenge opponents to just "drink bottled water." That's right: Pay an exorbitant amount of money to get around the medication that is unethically being forced upon everyone. That approach is so wrong on many levels. Leave the water alone. Find another way to get fluoride to those who need it (topical application works best, by the way, not ingestion), and don't undermine the right of patients to refuse treatment. What "Dr. State" requires would be considered malpractice on the part of any real physician. Don't let the State of California get away with it. While you're at it, stand up for local control of such key items of infrastructure as public water supplies.

As long as the 3rd parties garner 5% or less of the vote, you're throwing away your vote. Realistically most of the time you vote you're voting for the lesser of two evils. If I had my way "none of the above" would be on every ballot and, if it received the most votes, the parties would have to field new candidates.

Again, everyone being penalized for the lousy landlords. One, who lives in the rental and makes it uninhabitable? Two, if the landlord is to blame, then let the tenant complain and only one landlord would be effected. Then, they want the landlord to pay to have this done. Get real. Where is your logic????

Peace and love,
Stop drinking the kool-aid, lay off the pot for a few days and sit down and consider this:

What financial reason would the ADA have in supporting fluoridation when communities with fluoridated water have a demonstarted factual huge reduction in cavities and have increased dental health? A reasonable clear minded person would conclude there is no financial inducement for the ADA. In reality, fluoridation actually cuts into their income from treating patients who otherwise would have poor dental health and increased tooth decay problems! Fluoridation at about 1 ppm is safe and beneficial as demonstrated in numerous peer reviewed scientific studies the past three generations!

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aquarius

The emotional atmosphere is quite potent under this Lunar Eclipse, evoking a sense of crisis. The problems you've been experiencing with a certain person lately come to a head during the next fortnight, making you feel that you have to take drastic action or lay down the law. Yet this could make the situation worse than ever, especially if you act from a sense of panic or desperation. Take things gently and don't throw your weight around unless it's absolutely necessary.
