I get so tired of reading about this made up 'crisis.' The end result of all this yellow journalism will be millions of legitimate patients suffering unnecessarily. The title of this article is typical of sleazy journalism. In the past reporters would actually do some research before printing garbage like this!

I agree, that's bull.
I've been taking painkillers for months now because of sciatic nerve damage, and though my body is addicted and I face withdrawals I do not conceive how in any way how this would make me want heroin.

Regardless of the fact that addiction occurs, people need these painkillers.

Maybe its journalists like this that just haven't experienced true pain. Have you ever actually experienced a *10* on the pain scale? Screaming, crying, sweating? Unable to move?

Well I take one or two of the pills I'm prescribed and that can be avoided and I can live my life.

Until marijuana is legalized people like myself have absolutely no other option but to face the addiction and withdrawals. Which is worth it if you understand the kind of pain that these pills save people from.

faced with heroin or withdrawal many would choose heroin. not to mention once your habit gets to a certain point it's way cheaper for heroin. i have 2 friends unfortunately on heroin and both started on pills.

I quit before I got this far.. I didn't know it then, but I know now that I've quit that I was addicted from the first time I tried it.. Spent 2 and a half years doing pills.. As much as people think this is bogus, in the 4 years I was in college, I had 15 friends, who I was friends with before pills, all got into them at the same time and of the 16, I'm the only one that made it 4 years.. While I agree the DEA and the govt are handling real pain patients, it seems to me that once they get the diversion and addiction under control the rules will once again favor the pain patients because unfortunately they're fixing the whole at the expense of a few, the only way we know how to do things in America..
