There are two strains of HSV the herpes virus HSV 1 primarily causes the oral lesions , cold sores and yes the vast majority of people have it. It can be spread to the gentials. HSV 2 is the primary cause of gential infections and it is more common than people think. It is spread because some people do not know they have it . Also people who do have can spread when they are not having an outbreak.
It is easier for a man to give a woman an STD than the other way around due to the female anatomy,
I see people with syphllis every day at work!!! It is back and some of the other STD'S have drug resistant strains.
BE CAREFUL some people know they have this stuff and do not inform their partners,

One word about statistics, people tend to throw these numbers around as if theses numbers are absolute, when they are not at all absolute. It's just fraction of people who have been used in a particular study...and that study can be biased based on the people who were actually participating in it, which often times are attributable to a particular area.
