I'll try this one last time. What I have been trying to say is that, right or wrong, I understand why there are Jeremiah Wrights and people that believe some of the things he does about whites and america. And in all fairness, I must say that I understand why there are whites that believe some of the negative stereotypes about blacks as a whole because that is what is portrayed in the media. That I have just as much white blood as I do black doesn't matter. That someone has in-laws or relatives of different races doesn't matter. That the people as a whole are being used as pawns does matter ... but everybody is too busy trying to ignore or justify past pains and injustices (on all sides) to figure it out.
In the meantime we're fighting amongst ourselves while many of our liberties and rights are slowly being taken away. It's our (meaning americans of all races) children, fathers, husbands, wives, sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, and loved ones being sent off to fight in wars while the powers that be sit in their little offices pushing paper and big businesses use the labor force overseas while their children attend Ivy League colleges or prance about in front of the camera being famous for being rich or famous.
The only color is green! Either you have it or you don't. If you have it you wanna keep it and get more. If you don't have it, you don't have any power. If you are somewhere in the middle, you are slowly becoming extinct. The way to camoflage all of that is to dance around the issues and throw in a bunch of innuendos and place the focus some place else and let the people self destruct. United we stand, divided we fall ... and somebody has done a good job in making sure we stay divided.
Finally something I can pretty much agree with. I have a few quibbles, but on the whole, what you've written here is much in line with what I've been trying to get across all along. People of any color or creed who blame their own faults on the past are doomed to continue unless they lift themselves up. Nobody else is going to do it for them.

Anyone that has anything negative to say about Rev. Wright simply does not know him, at all. The judgements are being made without benefit of the entire picture. Rev. Wright is a man of God and all that really know him know that to be a fact. He has helped to do so much good for the community and the members of the church! A racist would not choose to be a part of the predominately Caucasion United Church of Christ, who also knows and respects this God fearing man. I know that he is praying for all of his seemingly growing masses of enemies who do not know him or understand him.

You can belive that the members of Trinity United Church of Christ will always love and respect Reverend Wright. There is nothing will stop the love that we have for him and his family. Why, because, we have had the priviledge of knowing him.

Wright is a bigot, pure and simple. But then, so are many other "preachers". Why this double-standard for blacks still exists is a mystery to me. If a white "preacher" said the same things, just substituting "white" for "black" and vice-versa, he'd be picketed and pilloried before nightfall. If a church had a website that said "Unashamedly White", that church would be burned to the ground in days.
I'm sorry, but if you don't like racism and bigotry, then don't be racist and bigoted yourself. It works both ways.
That Obama sat there for 20 years listening to this crap without saying a word says more about Obama's reasoning (or lack thereof) and disturbs me, makes me question his reasoning ability in other areas as well. I simply do not trust he would "have my back" when needed.
In 1961, a young African-American man, after hearing President John F. Kennedy's challenge to, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," gave up his student deferment, left college in Virginia and voluntarily joined the Marines.
In 1963, this man, having completed his two years of service in the Marines, volunteered again to become a Navy corpsman.(They provide medical assistance to the Marines as well as to Navy personnel.)

The man did so well in corpsman school that he was the valedictorian and became a cardiopulmonary technician. Not surprisingly, he was assigned to the Navy's premier medical facility, Bethesda Naval Hospital, as a member of the commander in chief's medical team, and helped care for President Lyndon B. Johnson after his 1966 surgery. For his service on the team, which he left in 1967, the White House awarded him three letters of commendation.

What is even more remarkable is that this man entered the Marines and Navy not many years after the two branches began to become integrated.

And Korb and Moss point out that while this young man was serving in the military, a young man named Dick Cheney used five separate deferments to avoid doing so; and two other young men, named Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, later also used deferments to avoid serving in the active duty military, although I think it's fair to point out that Clinton opposed the Vietnam War, while Bush and Cheney apparently did not.

So, who was this young man who served with such distinction?

This man is Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the retiring pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ, who has been in the news for comments he made over the last three decades.
You want to talk patriotism?

How many of Wright's detractors, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly to name but a few, volunteered for service, and did so under the often tumultuous circumstances of a newly integrated armed forces and a society in the midst of a civil rights struggle? Not many.
While words do count, so do actions.

Yeah- let's talk patriotism.

I did not question anyone's patriotism here, especially not Wright nor Obama, so why do you infer that I did?

I realize you are a little fuzzy, but you were impugning the integrity of two gentlemen whom apparently have more than you. Nice job deflecting a reasoned post with one line from that post.

Your entire post concerned Wright's service and "patriotism", which I never once questioned. Nice try on provoking an argument, but you must be armed before you can enter a battle of wits.

My problem is not specifically with Rev. Wright. Some of what was said in the brief clip that we have seen numerous times I can even agree with. What I don't agree with is the apparent hatefulness that it was delivered with. For me it seemed to encourage the division between white and black America. I am just not sure if words such as these continue to be preached from the pulpit that we will ever be able to unite and begin to put aside our differences.

The other part of what disturbs me is that never once did we hear him or others focus on that black America also has work to do within their own communities. Maybe it is talked about on Sunday mornings. I do not know. It is just not what you hear in the media. When this video of Rev. Wright was first released several black ministers and leaders of the black community were interviewed. I did not hear one of them talk about what responsibility that the black community must accept.

There are some of us that believe that responsibility lies with both black and whites. I personally believe that there are changes that need to be made by both. I do however feel that when blame is put only on one side you are only dividing us even more.

There's a lot of things nobody hears in the media because we only hear what the powers that be want us to hear (concerning the war, the economy, the races, etc.). Anything can be given a different slant than what the statement was originally intended to be.

'Stuff and Such' is apparently a Obama staff member trying to put a 'spin' on anything that flys in the face of Obamas bid for the Presidency.

The truth is what Obama says and what hes capable of doing AFTER hes elected could be and probably would be very different.

Heres a man who is 1/2 everything..black..christian.. truthful.

His youth was Islamic instructed, his so called 'christian' church is nothing more than a backwater African leaning assortment of mean spirited AFRICAN-Americans that hate white America.
(This I posted on another thread, but it appears Obamamaniacs are here also. so it applies to these misguided liberals as well)

Hes already addressed the 'reparations issue' and feels the U.S.A. must make amends to the blacks by reparations. read his book its full of pro-African and veiled anti-white remarks.

Do we really want or need a 1/2 dedicated President to Americans. one who will only place more burdens on white people at the expense of enriching blacks. I dont think so.
