Michael,
Don’t waste your time on Frank, he thinks he knows everything and he shows it by calling people who don’t agree with him names and yelling at them. It is what Obama supporters do best.
1. You are correct in that increasing taxes will decrease tax revenues. It is because there is a direct correlation between tax rates and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). GDP is how the economy is measured. When tax rates go up, GDP goes down, resulting in less taxable profits from business. Also as business deals with less profits more people get laid off and are taken off the tax roles. It’s called Hauser’s Law.
Obama has NOT said how he plans on reconciling this issue while being fiscally responsible.
2. There aren’t that many rich people. Obama’s increase in capital gains tax will impact almost anybody who has bothered to accumulate savings. So those who saved for their kids college and are now using those savings to pay for college, will have to give an extra 10% to the government to pay for Obama’s giveaways.
Obama hasn’t addressed this issue either. He needs it so he can say that he has made a “fairer” tax system that attacks the rich. His “fairer” tax system increases the taxes on those who already pay over 50% of total taxes and whose tax rate is 2 times higher than those who only pay about 3% of total taxes. Obama hasn’t explained how that is “fairer”.
3. NAFTA. This is the easy one. Obama has no choice, he is owned by the unions through their political donations. The unions don’t care about anybody but their members. When Obama addresses this issue, he ignores those who might get good jobs with NAFTA and he pretends that it is good for employment.
4. Energy is another easy one. His core constituency includes hard core environmentalists who have a scorched earth policy. They are incapable of compromise and only see it one way, even if it causes undue hardship to the rest of us. They claim they are doing it to protect the earth for future generations, but they don’t acknowledge the consequences their policies will have on current and future generations.
Going back to the horse and buggy days can only hurt, but Obama has not addressed this issue either. I know this doesn’t make sense. He supports union jobs in dying industries that pollute and in which we can no longer compete because of high wages, while at the same time claiming to be “green”. He hasn’t addressed this contradiction either.
Tom,

Thanks for some very enlightening answers. No wonder the Obama supporters don’t want to talk about the issues.

I have another question. How can Obama complain about lobbyists when he receives donations from the unions?

Also, why do federal employees need a union? Since a President would be their employer wouldn’t a donation from the union be a conflict of interest?

Without corporations there are no jobs. Having been in senior roles of a couple of large organizations, I can state based on personal experience that there is no great conspiracy to hold people down.
Companies are motivated by fiduciary duties to shareholders and that is part of the capitalist system our economy is based on. Shareholders (which includes a large percentage of the US population) expect a return on their investment. The only alternative is a planned society and we've seen how well that works. Ask anybody from a communist country which is a better system.
Keep treating them like "evil" beings and they will go to where they are wanted and take their jobs with them. If we keep chasing them out, what will be left? A bunch of poor people with no hope.
Unfortunately, what we have now is a bunch of poor people with no hope. The average citizens investment in the stock market is minimal. The old adage of what is good for GM is good for the country is no longer applicable. In a global economy of multi-national corporations who then represents the people? While our economy is base on the capitalist system, our government is based on the greatest good for the greatest number. Corporations are not fulfilling their obligations to this country. A multi-national corporation has no countries national interest at heart. Yes, corporations are necessary to our economy, but unrestrained and serving only their interests they are the dark side of capitalism. What is lobbying other than pay for access to government? When the citizen has less access to his representatives then the corporate lobbyist it is corruption most foul.

Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite.

Since you are so smart maybe you can help educate me. I have a few questions about Mr. Obama’s policies..........
4. Regarding NAFTA, my cousin works for Caterpillar and he said that NAFTA helped his company create more jobs. My nephew works for a large bank and said that his department had to hire more people to handle the increased work load because of NAFTA. Why would Mr. Obama oppose NAFTA if it helps create good jobs with benefits? Also wouldn’t that help reduce the need for the government health care if we created more good jobs?.........
Regarding #4, here in Illinois Caterpillar is a major employer, since NAFTA and the breaking of the union wages have been reduced by nearly half and benefits have been cut. While each trade deal must be dealt with individually and perhaps Illinois as a rust belt state is not typical, but NAFTA did nothing to help the average worker here.

Last July, Trinity United Church of Christ reprinted a Hamas manifesto written by a terrorist fugitive wanted by the FBI. It was published across two pages of the "Pastor's Page" section of the church bulletin. Rev. Jeremiah Wright's name is copyrighted at the bottom of the pages ...

In his newsletter, the preacher gives Mousa Abu Marzook a platform to justify the Palestinian terrorist group's denial of Israel's right to exist, while defending strikes against Israeli targets. Marzook is identified in the church bulletin only as the "deputy of the political bureau of Hamas, the Islamic Resistance Movement."

In fact, Marzook was kicked out of the U.S. several years ago after the U.S. declared him a specially designated terrorist. The Palestinian was indicted in 2004 for conspiring to funnel millions to Hamas to carry out kidnappings, bombings and other attacks on Israel. Believed to be hiding in Syria, he remains a fugitive.

Even if Wright didn't know Marzook was wanted by the government, Hamas has been designated a terrorist group since 1995, blacklisted by a Democrat administration. Wright had to have known from headlines that Hamas targets innocent civilians in pizza parlors and buses for suicide bombings, eviscerating children and elderly with fireballs laced with nails and ball bearings. These are not warriors, but terrorists.

Obama, for his part, says he is shocked— shocked!— that his church would support Hamas.
"I certainly wasn't in church when that outrageously wrong piece was reprinted in the bulletin," he said in a carefully worded statement that denies only his attendance and not his prior knowledge of the bulletin.

The Democratic front-runner for president seems to think if he just claims "not present," he won't be linked to his longtime church's radicalism. But a history of 20 years of church attendance and close ties to Wright make that impossible.

When videos showed his pastor blaming America for 9/11 and damning it to hell, Obama insisted he did not attend service on the days those particular sermons were delivered.

Obama also pleaded ignorance about Wright last year honoring anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan with a "lifetime achievement award," even though the church featured Farrakhan on the cover of its magazine and held a gala in Chicago to celebrate his "greatness."

Yet, Wright is the man Obama says has been "like an uncle" to him all these years. It strains credulity that in all their conversations, he remains in the dark about his radical ties.

Why do the people have no hope? This is truly the land of opportunity. There are plenty of real life examples of people succeeding in the face of adversity. Not just athletes. They live in the neighborhood. Its partially how you define succeeding. One of the best ways to learn is by observing somebody who is successful at a specific task and copy their style. Life is tough, we can’t deny that, but hope is right in front of us, we have to stop people from putting them down.

Individual participation in the stock market is huge. There are over 90 million mutual fund shareholders. Include corporate, governmental and union pension plans that represent millions of others and it’s a pretty good percentage. With mandatory 401k participation becoming effective, it is likely to increase significantly.

It is part of the capitalist system. Shareholders provide the capital that companies deploy and employ people. For the use of that capital the companies pay the shareholders a return. Through savings employees generate more capital and for most of us, it is what we plan to live off in retirement. It is a very efficient and fair transfer of wealth.

You are right that there is a large number of multi-national global companies. You are also right that they don’t represent or are not accountable to the people, it’s to their shareholders. The better companies do consider their employees a very important asset and try to treat them fairly or lose them to the competition. That is their motivation. These same companies are frequently very active in the communities in which they operate. They donate time and money. Sure there is a profit motive, but who cares.

They are not this Evil entity that some politicians represent them to be. They are employers and we don’t want to chase them out of our city, state or country. I don’t deny there are rogue elements, but they don’t usually last long. If you don’t like working one place you can take your skills and move to another job. It is a market efficiency.

I don’t know about lobbying. I like it when it benefits my employer and therefore my job, but when there are conflicts of interest, it should be illegal. The unions are very big political donors. So are environmentalist. Who is to say the business lobby isn’t defensive. To me it comes down to jobs.
