Karl the-king-maker Rove wrote: From http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/25/business/ec... “WASHINGTON — President Bush appealed to the nation Wednesday night to support a $700 billion plan to avert a widespread financial meltdown, and signaled that he is willing to accept tougher controls over how the money is spent.” Get ready to get “compromised”. And here it is from the AP. Money for the rescue plan would be phased in, he said. The first $350 billion would be available as soon as the president requested it. Congress could try to block later amounts if it believed the program was not working. The president could veto such a move, however, requiring extra large margins in the House and Senate to override. Despite the changes made during an intense week of negotiations, the heart of the program remains Bush's original idea: To have the government spend billions of dollars to buy mortgage-backed securities whose value has plummeted as hundreds of thousands of Americans have defaulted on their home loans. Senate Majority leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Saturday that the goal was to come up with a final agreement before the Asian markets open Sunday night. "Everybody is waiting for this thing to tip a little bit too far," he said, so "we may not have another day." Hours later, when he and others told reporters of the plan in a post-midnight news conference, Reid referred to the sometimes testy nature of the negotiations. "We've had a lot of pleasant words," he said, "and some that haven't always been pleasant." "We're very pleased with the progress made tonight," said White House spokesman Tony Fratto. "We appreciate the bipartisan effort to deal with this urgent issue." It was not immediately clear how many House Republicans might vote for the measure. With the election five weeks away, Democrats have said they would not push a plan that appeared sharply partisan in nature. End of quote. You heard it here first. I knew the Democrats would cave.

Geezz.. More than two-thirds of Republicans in the House voted against it. The rats are deserting the ship. They talk about “conservative issues” but are just looking to distance themselves from Bush… Never mind we’ll still get it done (I’ve just got to find a way to blame Clinton…hmmm or Carter.)

The govt has been refused a bailout of the fat cat CEO's.
surely this must mean the end of the Repubs.
Their PR is ruined. They have bought 8 yrs of misery to be topped off by nearly bank rupting th nation and decimating stocks around the world. Over a trillion dollars has become worthless over night
McCain is facing an uphill battle in a war he can never win. His futile attempts to salvage the reputation of the elephant run amok is in tatters.
The Repubs can never survive this and neither should they.
All they are is an 8 year lie.

man don't let out their real plan: get Bush in office based on hysteria over oral sex... Hit the building and change radically our Foreign Policy, to match targets assessed in the Baker Energy Paper and the PNAC Paper, so as to take the oil... Deregulate everything and profit as long as someone stupider is ready to buy it... Bring in the First Division to stifle 'domestic unrest'... http://www.armytimes.com/news/2008/09/army_ho... Get to Paraguay before the end of 2008... The 'Greatest Generation' apparently wanted their payback... their going going gone... with some rich descendants going to be very very happy... if the dollar doesn't tank... ZENlongrange

ZENlongrange oh, no, of course not. The deregulating of the American marketplace and wholesale sell-off of middle class America due to NAFTA, CAFTA, PNTR with China and WTO policy was all about keeping America compeeeeetitive and busting the unnnnnnions who had driven up manufaaaacturing costs to the point of non-compeeeeetiveness....not about selling off the American middle class to slave-labor nations and robbing local tax coffers to the point that bridges collapse from normal wear-and-tear, dams can no longer withstand hurricane-force winds, cities can no longer withstand twisters, and wildfire crews not being able to put out little blazes before they become neighborhood-destroying infernos.

Here in NZ, the politico's took away the treson laws so they could commit it and sell us off. But they kept the sedition laws so we couldn't complain and now have anti protest laws. Like you, our democracy has gone.

Anyone who voted for the bailout, whether democrat or republican, needs to go, So don't vote for any of the scum that voted for the "bailout", we should still have all investigated, and audited. In fact, as taxpayers, it would be our duty to ourselves that an auditing of All departments happen! Any wrong doing, we should build a LARGE whitecollar jail for all, and confiscate their assets! How about that!
All departments, from city to DC! Oh, we'd have to maybe store these thieves in camps, with tents maybe! I mean, it's just HUGE! And where's all the money????? All the retirement $$$$$?????

Why kill the one party that has kept 'CRASH' out of your vocabulary since Hoover's decade? Have you forgotten, no doubt, the five post-Civil War crashes? 1873 to 1913, roughly one each ten years... Then Our Man Roosevelt saved the sorry Wall Streeters with a bit of regulation... a bit of Welfare State: and you were saved, and you thrived, until Bush the Lesser came in, and let Paulson sweet-talk the SEC back in 2005... NO crashes since Hoover (other than the Reagan-Baker S&L scandal...) Remember, only Democrats can save you from yourselves... Sigh... I don't know why we bother... :-) ZENten Are you Crazy wrote: <quoted text> Asleep, don't think so! Though I WOULD hang the traitors to my nation, I would NOT necessarily hang them for being "evil." I WOULD hang them for being so IGNORANT and INEPT at managing my NATION, but only the spineless cowards who actually PURPOSELY outsourced the wealth and prosperity of my nation (for $0.13 and $0.38 on the dollar) WHILE screaming "the unions made me do it! the unions made me do it!" would hang for OUTRIGHT treason (unless they decided real quickfast to insource.) Treason and sedition are two seperate things. They would ALL hang though, on that I think we agree (unless I'm wrong. Which I often am.) Per the drinking of cool-aid though, well, we all do it from time to time. I myself was recently made aware of hte (fact?) that the planet Mercury is i n retrograde. Unsure of exactly why I was told this information, I found out that astrologically speaking this is bad, apparently. Causes communications and electrical breakdowns, according to those psychic-types. I find that INTERESTING, at least, because Mercury was of course the winged messenger, AND historically low periods in economic cycles also DO coincide with this phenomenon, apparently. That is if the nutcase who told me so is to be relied upon. Or the internet.
