Thats great! Not!! lol
okay according to some news I heard in the next months the gasoline price would increase almost reaching the 4 dollar a gallon, so the 300 dollars would go to the gasoline industrie(bush and his friends) not to the economy.

I love this tax rebate BS.
A few years ago when they did this, my parents didn't see a single dime... because my sister was in college. If you have a child in college, they tell you that you're receiving a tax deductable for it already and you don't get one cent. So to all you proud parents out there seeing your kid make something of themselves... you're not getting a thing!
I also love how our government works. If you're single and struggling to live on your own... you get the least amount back. The more your wife opens her legs... the more money you get back.
I remember my buddy telling me about his tax return last year. I was $3000 below the poverty line... I got $1200 back. He and his wife have 2 kids... both work 50-60 hours a week. They EACH got back over $10,000.
I hate this f'n country sometimes. Be nice if ONE person in Congress or the Senate had a damn brain in their heads. Because I'm smart enough to set MY life before having a family I get penalized for it? Screw them!
So your buddy and his wife both got $10,000 back from their taxes. Big deal, all that means is that they had better modify their W-4s immediately so they stop giving the government a free $20,000 loan every year. I get so tired of people saying "Oh, I didn't pay any taxes this year. I got a refund." Why can't anyone see that when the government withholds $2,000 a month and then gives you back $3,000 when you file that you actually paid $21,000 in taxes but, nooo, they say the government paid me $3,000.

It was stupid in the first place to argue for more food stamps and more "unemployment insurance" when unemployment is only 5.0 percent. News flash: If you can't find a job of any type for 26 weeks when unemployment is 5.0 percent, it's not because the economy is bad!
Making a stupid demand and then demanding a concession for withdrawing it, is not good faith negotiating. Tax rebates should go to the people who paid the taxes.
I don't know what part of the country you're living in but here in Washington state the unemployment rate is higher than most. And, it wasn't because of people not trying to find work, it was because people were trying, by coming from other parts of the country on the promise that there would be jobs in places like Seattle and Portland, Oregon and along the Eastern Washington border. Now we have a lot of people with no jobs and no end in sight, a failed housing boom, and more and more people still rolling in.

The unemployment rate at 5 percent means one in every twenty people in the country is out of work. That's high. In the depression it was between one in every 9 to the peak of one in every five, and this predicted recession hasn't hit yet. If the government doesn't figure a way out of this mess it's going to be a major collapse.

Since the Senate and Congress are responsible for it in the first place, I think they should take pay cuts of 10 to 15 percent. They didn't mind giving themselves their last three raises, so if they really want to help the country let them feel a little of dig. Then we'd be using money they were going to take anyway, for their aristocratic life style. It isn't going to make much difference with all the freebees, percs and special privileges they allow themselves.

I'm going to do the absolute un-American thing. I am going to pay off debt with my check. This will provide little or no economic boost. Sorry but I am not going out and buying a new TV or some junk from Walmart. I encourage everyone that gets a check to pay off debt as well. This will do two things. It will get you in a better credit position and it will teach the government that you can't buy your way out of trouble.
Same here, I'll put the extra $300.00 toward my mortgage payment.

You make 3k below the poverty line...how many hours do you work per week? The reason I ask is because your friend works 50-60 and got back 10k....why are you mad....work more hours or go to school and get a better job. If you make below the pov level you qualify for college assistance, etc... thats the problem with liberals (crybabies).... Your mad because someone else is getting more than you when they worked HARDER than you to get it. You want to take what others have worked hard for......that is what I got from your post.
Would you please stop with the liberal garbage? I hate politics, I don't give a crap who is on what side of the line... that doesn't matter to me!

You want to know why I made so little last year? Our area has NOTHING in it. For over 60 miles... there's NOTHING.

The only job I could get was working 10-15 hours a week at Dollar Tree. 5 months ago I finally got a decent job to a surplus in their clientele and I now work anywhere from 30-60 hours a week depending on how busy it is.

We have no jobs in this area. Local businesses run our entire committee around here and are so scared that stores and businesses will send them bankrupt they don't allow anyone in here. It took TEN YEARS to get a Price Chopper built in my town because all the bitter people with small stores with jacked up prices were pissing and moaning they'd lose their businesses if it got built. Over 50 people became employed when Price Chopper was finished... people that didn't work before because there were no jobs... who now contribute to our society and earn their own money. Wal-Mart wants to build across from Price Chopper, now the other local price gougers are moaning they'll go out of business and are using their political power to keep a couple hundred people from finding work when it gets finished.

No one should be rewarded more because they have kids. Their big returns were NOT because of how hard they worked. My parents worked like that their whole lives and were never given money like that back. But this country prides itself on rewarding people who don't need the money and kicking those who do to the curb. You know what they did with their money? Brand new cars for each because they didn't need a single dime of that return!

<quoted text>If youre struggling that bad and that far below the poverty line im sure you dont pay in much throughout the year. So why should you get more back then what youve paid in? Should you get a free ride because youre single ? The more you make, the more they take. And in some cases get back.
Are you kidding me? I paid about 2 grand in taxes last year and I was only entitled to a $400 return if it hadn't been for the poverty line.

Why should married couples with two incomes get a free ride? What sense does that make? One person lives on their own... gets a fraction of what a two income home gets because of a government stamped piece of paper saying they're married. It's bull. If two people made the exact same amount per year... the single one would get less than half the married person gets. Makes no sense!

Those who make the least get the least. And then I look at people like Tom Cruise who gets $20million for doing one film. Heck I could do somewhat as good as this guy.

Rich keep getting more and more and I keep getting further behind and working harder for the small amount I get.

How's about it Bloomberg..........give me a million..........you're a billionaire and wouldn't miss it.

Hell, I owe 70K in federal school loans. I'll never pay them off. Exwife took all the money and assets so I had to put the loan on deferment for too many years just to get caught back up.

I will never be able to pay this off.

I find this deal on tax rebates rather discriminatory. It essentially excludes individuals making more than $250,000 per year.

So those who are high level professionals and work very hard are getting penalized due to their drive and hard work. Not fair.

Ransk...you only paid $2000 in taxes last year and you're complaining about it? Get a life. Do you know how much in atxes some of us pay? I don't make too much money, but I pay well over $12,000 a year just to the federal government. And you have the audacity to complain about your $2000 a year? I bet you live with your parents still and don't have to pay rent or a mortgage.

i think this tax relief check is a joke and it's money our government should use elsewhere, like paying off its bills or funding some windfarms, or working on making a more fuel economic engine or building up a border fence. I could definately use the money, but I would much rather see it go to good use than watch it just end up in the hands of some fat corporate bigwig.

First off, if the idiots are going to do this plan then only those that paid income tax should get anything. Second it should be a flat percentage. Lets say 5% for just kicks. If you paid 2,000 in income tax then you get $100, if you paid $20,000 you get a $1,000. Now the percentage can go up or down but it should be a flat rate against what you paid. That is fair and hell alot more american than taking from one group to give to another who did not earn it!

I think that it is about time the government does something for we all american middle class workers. Not that giving help to illegal immigrants, homeless people, or those on welfare who drive the sports car is wrong.
I just think it is long overdue and I am going to enjoy every penny of it knowing where it is comming from

It would be nice if they would at least make a top 10 list of things to buy that would help the economy. Since so many of our goods are made in china I guess the best thing would be to buy a service, like going out to few nice restaurants.
Since it's extra money I don't mind using it to help stimulate the economy even though I could easily pay a bill with it. At least we're not having to buy war bonds yet.

Ok sorry... it was more than 2 grand, I was looking at a July check I found in my desk drawer. But considering I only made about 8 grand last year... paying over a third into taxes when I'm considered living in poverty is f'n ridiculous... and I don't want to hear any BS about getting a better job. Aside from moving 200 miles away... there are NO better jobs. I'm in higher paying job than I was in 5 months ago working more than double the hours... so quit your bitching.

I haven't lived at home since I was 19. I saved up money after high school to get on my feet and moved out on my own, and I'm 24 now. I'm sorry you have a better job than I do and can live more comfortable so you can treat people who can't find proper work like crap because of the area they're in... but life is what it is. I don't make enough to get out of here and now I make too much to qualify for loans to go to school.

Our government at it's finest.
