A broad coalition of groups, including AARP, California Chamber of Commerce, League of Women Voters of California, California Police Chiefs Association, Association of California Water Agencies, National Wildlife Federation and hundreds of other organizations that don't normally agree on issues - all oppose Proposition 98. Both Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sen. Dianne Feinstein oppose Proposition 98.
Wow, If they're against it, it must be good. NONE of those ORGANiZATIONS do ANY good for people. They are all "Big Government" more UNIONS, MORE TAXES advocates. Arnold is no different than Feinstein. They are both proto-socialists.
Rent control is a bad thing. It destroys communinities

The fact of the matter is, Prop 99 is ONLY on the ballot as a phony alternative to Prop 98. Prop 99 is sponsored by the League of California Cities and the Redevelopment Association and is designed to APPEAR to rein-in eminent domain while actually changing virtually nothing. If the backers of Prop 99 really wanted to protect homeowners and small businesses from eminent domain abuse they could have just taken Prop 98 and dropped the rental control phase-out portions. As for rent control: why do we think that people somehow have a right to live where they want, rather than where they can afford? I grew up in Manhattan Beach, but was never able to afford to live there as an adult. So I lived in east Torrance (on the edge of Carson), in Lomita, in Lawndale, and finally bought a house in Redondo. Rent control is the only governmental procedure I can think of in which the owner of an asset is told how much they can charge for it. We don't have "gas control" on ExxonMobil, or "food control" on Vons, or "car control" on GM and Toyota.

Yes we do have food control. The price of milk is regulated by the government. The price of electricity has to be approved by the government. If rents increase so does homelessness. i would rather have the working poor living in a rent controlled apartment than out of a shopping cart in the bushes down the block.

Yeah, the milk and energy things are killing us. And rent control destroys real estate. And its not the best way to help poor people. It just creates slums. The League of Califorina Cities is another one of those organizations run by a few salaried insiders which runs counter to the good of everyone else.

Which California cities have the biggest problems with affordable housing, urban blight and the homeless? San Fransisco and Los Angeles. Which California cities have rent control? San Fransisco and Los Angeles. Hmm? I wonder if there is a connection?
