Giuliani shifts message to deflect criticism before Iowa primary

Mount Pleasant, Iowa - Rudy Giuliani may be skipping Iowa on New Year's Eve, but he evoked the New Year as part of his ongoing pitch that his record as Gotham mayor makes him the best candidate for the ...

It's THE POLICE, Stupid! That's why crime is still declining in NY.

Giuliani pointed to the police as the solution to NY's problems and he was their apologist, and self appointed leader, and cheerleader. THAT's WHY Rudy deserves credit - lot's of it! He was the defender of the police.

Let me say again! "It's the police, stupid!"

But look-out! Liberals now think it's the YUPPIES that clean-up New York city. Just look at this quote from the article above:

"...economic prosperity and an influx of young, affluent professionals also helped pull New York from a bleak era".

"Yuppies"? Liberals are now crediting Yuppies for fighting crime, fighting the mob, cleaning up Riker's Island and NY prisons?

Is there no end to the intellectual dishonesty of some liberals?

Yuppies did not clean-up New York!

Giuliani and the Police did it!

But just as a reality check:
1.)Yuppies do not do the dirty work that police officers do.
2.)Yuppies do not go into crime ridden neighborhoods and clean them up.
3.)They do not arrest Organized crime figures.
4.)Yuppies did not clean-up Riker's Island and New York prisons.
5.)Yuppies do not patrol central park and act as deterrent to criminals.

The police are the ones who actually make a living fighting crime; so that the Yuppies, sociologists, college professors, and journalists can keep talking about crime (with no actual experience when it comes to fighting crime).

I voted for Giuliani three times, so I give him much credit.
But your post (or rant) is ignoring that as early as the 1980s, many professional types started moving into neglected neighborhoods.
Sociologists, college professors and journalists" you claim ???
Try Wall Street and Madison Avenue types.
Police alone didnt save Central Park. It also included millions of donations to the Conservancy from residents who use the park and wanted it restored.
The climb back from the fiscal crisis of the 1970s was a long one. Giuliani deserves a great deal of credit. But not ALL THE CREDIT!

A police officer standing in a park is the most effective deterrent. Let's use some common sense instead of overanalzying. The combination of uniformed and undercover cops in subways is the best deterrent; not Wallstreet yups. Just what do you think yups are gonna do to a mugger? Text-message him to death?

You need a lesson in demographics.
