In the 2006 election, reformers from both parties attempted to end the corruption in Chicago's Cook County government. They probably would have succeeded, too, had Mr. Obama taken their side. Liberals and conservatives came together and nearly ousted Cook County Board President John Stroger, the machine boss whom court papers credibly accuse of illegally using the county payroll to maintain his own standing army of political cronies, contributors and campaigners.

The since-deceased Stroger's self-serving mismanagement of county government is still the subject of federal investigations and arbitration claims. Stroger was known for trying repeatedly to raise taxes to fund his political machine, even as basic government services were neglected in favor of high-paying county jobs for his political soldiers.

When liberals and conservatives worked together to clean up Cook County's government, they were displaying precisely the postpartisan interest in the common good that Mr. Obama extols today. And Mr. Obama, by working against them, helped keep Chicago politics dirty. He refused to endorse the progressive reformer, Forrest Claypool, who came within seven points of defeating Stroger in the primary.

After the primary, when Stroger's son Todd replaced him on the ballot under controversial circumstances, a good-government Republican named Tony Peraica attracted the same kind of bipartisan support from reformers in the November election. But Mr. Obama endorsed the young heir to the machine, calling him -- to the absolute horror of Chicago liberals -- a "good, progressive Democrat."

Why would Obama advocates the killing of babies is beyond me. Because when it comes down to it, abortion means terminating a life. In this case, an innocent baby who can't defend himself or herself.

For the pro-choice folks out there, just ask yourself this question, if you see a baby left on the side of the road, will you stop and help? If the answer is yes, then you should re-examine why you support abortion. Also, remember this, there is another choice, it's called adoption. Of course, there also should be exceptions in case when the life of the mother is in danger or in case of rape or incest when sex was not consensual.

Pro-choicers believe that it this decision is best left between a woman and her doctor. We support her right to continue or to terminate her pregnancy, that's why we are called pro-choice.

I even support your choice to not support abortion for yourself, however, your rights are not superior over another woman who makes the choice to terminate.

Perhaps you need to examine why you can allow some exceptions for abortions, but not all? What other medical procedure out there requires women to wait 24 hours after getting there, before they do what is requested?

What about the thousands of children that are lingering in Foster Care already? When will they be adopted? Take care of the children that already here, before you start worrying about embryos.

The baby's rights supersedes the rights of the mother to choose to murder her child. It is an established FACT that life begins at the moment of conception in every living thing EXCEPT for humans. Only human life begins whenever a woman decided it does.

Once the life of a human being starts inside the mother the mother looses any and all rights to terminate that human life. I put it to you this way human life begins at conception it is the mother's responsibility and a duty to that child to carry it full term.

most women are on the pill now a days which means that even in a case of rape the chances of a woman becoming pregnant are slim to none. If a woman so chooses not to take the pill for whatever reason then she runs the risk of becoming pregnant. That is her choice. If she happens to become pregnant out of her own choosing them yes she forfeits any and all claims she might think she has to murdering her baby.

It is a BABY not a choice.

I disagree with idea that all abortions are based off a mother's selfish need. If you see an animal in pain, do you let it suffer? There are many mothers who know that they can not support their child, and other's who know the child will be handicapped in some way. These factors can lead to serious psychological damage, and or physical pain. Sometimes a child is already dying in the womb. In these cases it might be best to abort the baby, instead of letting the child suffer. I can't stand the mother's who choose to have an abortion are labeled as heartless murderers, when really they were just trying to protect a life from any further pain.

I like when Obama said,"it conflicts with my christian beliefs". I have never heard any "christian" promote abortion in the name of their religion. Christians DO NOT lobby for abortion, some, even many believe in the right to choose but not because of their religious beliefs. It's like Obama said in that very same interview w/George Stephanopolous, "my Muslim faith", Christians don't make that mistake either.

So wait a minute...

People are chastising obama because he supports pro choice saying it will kill people, yet they are ok with mccain even though he thinks we should have an indefinite WAR with iraq? Gee, that makes a lot of sense.

Or how about the people that voted for bush in 00 and 04 because he wasn't pro choice? Ya, that worked out good for all of us eh? He didn't change the abortion laws and all of america got screwed over.

Man, I'm glad I don't vote for someone for the sole reason they say they are for no choice on abortion, because it sure does make you look like an ass.

If a Women does not want a baby she should use birth controll or leave her legs closed. That should be her choice. I wonder if people who are pro-choice actually witnessed a late term Abortion would still be in favor of Abortion? I find it sickening that someone can agree with pulling a baby out of it's Mother three inches from birth and shoving a pair of siccors in the back of it's neck as it flairs in pain and then put a tube in the hole and suck his or her brains out. And pro-choicers go as far as not allowing the baby to be anestitized before it is killed, because that would prove that the child is alive and has feelings.
