1 ...and why exactly is it so important if he IS or ISN't welcome in Israel. That question more or less indicates the overinflated sense of self that Israel brings to any "Peace Process" . Rather than Israel calling the shots, maybe it is time that the rest of the governments in the region have their greater say. Engagement is the only way toward resolution and compromise...and sorry folks, but you can't do that in Georgia. And you can't do that by staying in Israel either...its about time that we woke up to that fact. |

1 Humanist...I liked your response. Another important thing for Americans to remember (or learn) is that in 1953 under the Eisenhower administration, under the direction of the Dulles Brothers (Sec. of State and Head of CIA) Cia agent Kermit Roosevelt (yes...that Roosevelt family) orchestrated a coup against the democratically elected Prime Minister if Iran...Mossadegh. The US reinstated the Peacock Dynasty by reinstalling the exiled Shah. The Iranian revolution was in response to the represive regime of the US backed Shah...and did not (at least by the average Irania) set out to be a fundamentalist revolution. What the US must be aware of is that most of the problems in the Middle East today are the direct results of ill conceived, ill planned and short sighted foreign policies. Much of those policies being vestiges of the Cold War. The problems we are experiencing today are "Blow Back". And yes Humanist...our unconditional, unquestioning support for Israel doesn't help matters. |

1 From what I remember Reagan asked that the release of the hostages be held up until he officially took office. The deal to release the hostages had already been brokered by the Carter administration. From what I recall Carter gave up his second term as President to bring them back alive. He could have played the military card and have been an 'All-American Hero ' and saved his Presidency , but all the hostages and rescuers would have been dead ... in Reagan parlance ' who cares?'. Jimmy Carter cared and he lost the election, but they all came back alive . I always wondered when was the Wait till I'm in power deal was brokered, anybody know? Jimmy Carter was a good President and a Peace Maker and just your average American guy that you can all be proud of. I am a Canadian and I think Jimmy Carter is a credit to his country. Glenn F |
