Which one are you?
Perhaps there is a compromise between the two,“"ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for yourself”.

With excess litigation and government freebies we have created a dependent society dominated by irresponsible free loaders who are pandered to by politicians and trying to win a lawsuit lottery against corporations, doctors, hospitals etc. I saw an ad for a personal injury lawyer who specializes in suing churches and non-profits.
As U.S.A. falls apart, greed takes over, just like the pigs when you have less food out, especially at the corporate level (oil companies, Comcast, PPL,) with executives getting from 10 to 60 million dollars per year. The Governor of NY and his wife made $279,000 last year and only gave $150 to charity (old clothes to Salvation Army). What do we produce that we can export? lawyers and prostitutes, slot machines and cigarettes maybe.
Last culprit in this mess is the liberal media.
Huh! Lawyers and prostitutes?

You left out the main driver of growth today, technology.

Both sides would be laughing at everyone on this forum. Both Democrats and Republicans are "raping" everyone yet you people continue to defend them as if they really care for you and not their money and power... that's funny. Suckers.

By the way, to the writer of the actual letter to the editor...if you cry and complain about all the people that cry and complain that kind of makes you part of the whoa is me crowd of cryers and complainers. Welcome to the club, I'm glad you can join us.

If you were a inter-racial child and the white kids constantly pointed out your darkness how would you feel? You would have no animosity? I think you would. Does he still hold that animosity, I think not. It's a little more complicated than that one line.

"Letters to the editor blame President Bush for everything from the cost of fuel to zits on kids' faces."

I do love it when the ultra-partisans come up with such overly exaggerated statements with the implication that the Bush administration is to blame for nothing. Should there be a "D" after his name the same would be sreaming "Bloody Murder". This attitude of accepting and strongly defending whatever this "conservative' administration force fed the US, no matter how foul or non-conservative, is why the Democrats won in '06, and why Senator Obama has a good chance of winning this November.
With that said the letter writer violates his own premise by blaming everthing on the Democrats. Gotta love partisan politics. Am saddened, as I did beleive McCain was going to be the 'compromise candidate' and therefore the real 'change' candidate. But his strict adherence to the GOP standard rulebook "Got to unify the party" will end his chances, but he could have had a huge possitive impact on his country, when it was needed most. One cannot unify folks like this letter writer to a lot of other members of the Republican Party, and why bother? The Republican Party needs people who defend the truth, not the party.

Stephen,

That is a great observation.

You hit the nail on the head. Today's society wants instant gratification. No one wants to obey laws when it interferes with their own individual interpretation of what justice means. Together with moral relativism, anything goes.

If you read many of these posts, who is the loudest and most vitriolic? The people who push the envelope in hopes of subverting American values. They do so with venom for everything that is good. They have no tolerance for those who disagree with their radical views.

For one, god is not longer tolerated unless it is the liberal god. Some claim to be christian but upon further questioning of what they mean, they say "we are Progressive Christians". What does that mean but a perversion of Christianity.

We need to get back to the basics of what good citizenship means. All views are not equal, but everyone has an opportunity to speak and have their say, based on sound philosophy, logic and sound reasoning. Our electoral process is designed to let those more responsible have their pitch with the American electorate having the final say. That's our system. And it is the best in the world.

As Thomas Paine said, "That government is best which governs least".

Let people who have the ability work for what they need. That's real freedom. A nanny state is the wrong direction. Those who need assistance getting started should have it. "If you give a man a fish he eats for a day, if you teach a man to fish he eats for a lifetime". And he has earned the self respect to do so.

Great post.

His very accurate post was not about what the elected do, it is about how liberals in general think.

If we are all morons, what does that make you - the villiage idiot? Can't address the points so you go no only straw man but ad hom also? Both are signs of a weak mind, but together makes not only your true ignorance shine, but how low your IQ must really be.

One should never end a sentence with a preposition as you did with your final sentence. Proper grammar is the first sign of intelligence while lack of it is the first sign of stupidity and laziness. Please be more careful next time.

Since when has the word "be" become a preposition?

http://www.abcteach.com/abclists/prepositions...

Perhaps it is you who is stupid and lazy.

At any rate, ending a sentence with a preposition is not necessarily incorrect.

From the American Heritage Dictionary:

“There is nothing inherently wrong with ending a sentence with a preposition. Such placement may cause awkwardness by giving undue stress to the proposition. Where rearrangement would give an awkward or stilted effect the natural order should be kept.”

RACIAL DIVIDE: Dems ran ads saying that black churches will burn if Republicans are elected... didn't happen....Clinton campaigned saying he was shaped by watching black churches burn as a youth... NEVER happened. Obama's spiritual leader blames AIDS on "white America"- never happened. How about all those great political cartoons from the left showing Condi Rice as "Aunt Jemima" or "brown sugar". The whole country watched the Thomas/ Anita Hill hearings and a majority believed Thomas ... until the media started its attacks. A year later the majority had been poisoned against him.
DIVIDING AMERICA: It used to be illegal to ask race or ethnicity on a mortgage/finance application. Now thanks to Dems it's required to even process app.
SPREADING FEAR: How about those great ads Dems run about Republicans starving children if elected... NEVER HAPPENED! Reagan & Republicans will start WWIII- the opposite happened. Vietnam was Nixon's War- JFK got us involved. The ground war in IRAQ cannot be won QUAGMIRE, QUAGMIRE,QUAGMIRE,QUAGMIRE. Millions dead!... No, fewer dead in entire war than in single day fighting during WWI or II. Republicans will wiretap everyone... no, only foreign terror suspects. Clinton's Echelon was used on US citizens indiscriminately
TWO AMERICA's- Michele Obama received huge pay increase that magically co-incided with hubby's accidentally getting elected virtually without opposition. She tells black audiences to reject middle class ideas and aspirations. Recipe for poverty= Dems+Welfare State+good intentions
AMERICA SECOND- Dem party & alQaeda use the same talking points. IN FACT al Qaeda just hired a bunch of CNN & Canadian & British Broadcasting reporters to launch a PR campaign for them. Funny how libs fit so well into their plans.
This is the best post I have read yet!!!! You are correct in every way!

While they may pay lip service to democracy, all Republicans are facists at heart.

Check out Dem Exterminator's fantasy of shooting two democratically elected officials because he doesn't agree with their views.

Adolph Hitler declared war on the US.
If the US Congress had supported the president at the end of WW I, there would never have been a WW II.

Thomas Paine ALSO said THIS, regarding mythology of the christian god:

"As to the people called Christians, they have no evidence that their religion is true. There is no more proof that the Bible is the word of God, than that the Koran of Mahomet is the word of God. It is education makes all the difference. Man, before he begins to think for himself, is as much the child of habit in Creeds as he is in ploughing and sowing. Yet creeds, like opinions, prove nothing.

Where is the evidence that the person called Jesus Christ is the begotten Son of God? The case admits not of evidence either to our senses or our mental faculties: neither has God given to man any talent by which such a thing is comprehensible. It cannot therefore be an object for faith to act upon, for faith is nothing more than an assent the mind gives to something it sees cause to believe is fact. But priests, preachers, and fanatics, put imagination in the place of faith, and it is the nature of the imagination to believe without evidence.

If Joseph the carpenter dreamed,(as the book of Matthew (i) says he did,) that his betrothed wife, Mary, was with child by the Holy Ghost, and that an angel told him so, I am not obliged to put faith in his dreams; nor do I put any, for I put no faith in my own dreams, and I should be weak and foolish indeed to put faith in the dreams of others.

The Christian religion is derogatory to the Creator in all its articles. It puts the Creator in an inferior point of view, and places the Christian Devil above him. It is he, according to the absurd story in Genesis, that outwits the Creator in the garden of Eden, and steals from him his favorite creature, Man, and at last obliges him to beget a son, and put that son to death, to get Man back again; and this the priests of the Christian religion call redemption.

Christian authors exclaim against the practice of offering up human sacrifices, which, they say, is done in some countries; and those authors make those exclamations without ever reflecting that their own doctrine of salvation is founded on a Human Sacrifice. They are saved, they say, by the blood of Christ. The Christian religion begins with a dream and ends with a murder."

Conservatism is the last dim vestige of the reptilian brain exerting influence on otherwise intelligent men. I sincerely hope the genetic defect that causes it is found and eliminated before we end up as Serfs in the New World Order...

I find it funny, most of the problems that have been atributed to America os far in this thread are in reality a world wide problem. Greed, corruption in politics, welfare reliance, and apathy in the people. So my question is, why does it mean the immiment demise of the US? Wouldn't a demise of the world be more accurate?

Or are we seeing the same fight between the left and right being argued in a different arena?
