Everything is wrong with U.S. society

Truly there are many things wrong with the government ... but to blame all the problems on Bush or on Johnson is untenable. If we were to look for "THE CAUSE" I don't think we would have to go much further than "greed." And guess what ... good numbers of both Democrats and Republicans practice it ... as do Independents, Libertarians, etc. A shift from a self-centeredness to a more selfless society would make a great difference. Unless a "moral" change is made in this direction ... yes ... our country is doomed ... sooner or later. Not only self-reliance, but self-sacrifice for the greater good are needed.

The parallels of the society of the latter days of the Roman Empire (the days of bread and circuses) and our own society are stunning. But it may be for reasons other or more impactful than what Stephen laments about here.
No doubt, our society has become more harsh, more impatient, more greedy, more hedonistic, more apathetic, less suited to teach its own offspring the lessons of history, etc. and they therefore less willing to even pay attention, etc. We seem to be stuck in an eddy current of insanity where we keep trying to do the same things or incrementally lazy things and expect different results, but we never get them. We treat symptoms, or rather we allow our politicians to be rewarded to do so. Why, because symptomatic treatments are short term facades of improvement and easy to do but never long lasting. We shun the addressing of root causes which take patience, and we seem to now adhere to the mantra that everything in life has to be boiled down to the new scourge called political correctness. Addressing root causes is a longer term harder to implement way to the solutions to what ails us. Our political spectrum is not necessarily narrow but what we whine and moan about can sure be very self serving. Too many want Mommy Government to save them from their own, what should be, self responsibilities and accountabilities in life. We will vote this way in November, of that there is no doubt. Who can give us the most stuff with our own over taxed money...and makes us all equal by constructing a collective, i.e. socialism. Read this book (below) for a different take and see why screwing around with our enemies beyond our borders and taking them for granted (while we fiddle here is a far larger threat. 1 As U.S.A. falls apart, greed takes over, just like the pigs when you have less food out, especially at the corporate level (oil companies, Comcast, PPL,) with executives getting from 10 to 60 million dollars per year. The Governor of NY and his wife made $279,000 last year and only gave $150 to charity (old clothes to Salvation Army). What do we produce that we can export? lawyers and prostitutes, slot machines and cigarettes maybe. Last culprit in this mess is the liberal media. |

2 I love how you spend two paragraphs talking about all the republican-rooted problems (unchecked corporate greed and exploitation; Predatious opportunism by republican lawyers, etc.), then conveniently forget that the corporate media is owned by the same republican corporations... |

1 This is from a guy whose party runs convicted drug dealers as mayors and gives a standing ovation to House members that have sexual dalliances with male pages. RACIAL DIVIDE: Dems ran ads saying that black churches will burn if Republicans are elected... didn't happen....Clinton campaigned saying he was shaped by watching black churches burn as a youth... NEVER happened. Obama's spiritual leader blames AIDS on "white America"- never happened. How about all those great political cartoons from the left showing Condi Rice as "Aunt Jemima" or "brown sugar". The whole country watched the Thomas/ Anita Hill hearings and a majority believed Thomas ... until the media started its attacks. A year later the majority had been poisoned against him. DIVIDING AMERICA: It used to be illegal to ask race or ethnicity on a mortgage/finance application. Now thanks to Dems it's required to even process app. SPREADING FEAR: How about those great ads Dems run about Republicans starving children if elected... NEVER HAPPENED! Reagan & Republicans will start WWIII- the opposite happened. Vietnam was Nixon's War- JFK got us involved. The ground war in IRAQ cannot be won QUAGMIRE, QUAGMIRE,QUAGMIRE,QUAGMIRE. Millions dead!... No, fewer dead in entire war than in single day fighting during WWI or II. Republicans will wiretap everyone... no, only foreign terror suspects. Clinton's Echelon was used on US citizens indiscriminately TWO AMERICA's- Michele Obama received huge pay increase that magically co-incided with hubby's accidentally getting elected virtually without opposition. She tells black audiences to reject middle class ideas and aspirations. Recipe for poverty= Dems+Welfare State+good intentions AMERICA SECOND- Dem party & alQaeda use the same talking points. IN FACT al Qaeda just hired a bunch of CNN & Canadian & British Broadcasting reporters to launch a PR campaign for them. Funny how libs fit so well into their plans. |

1 The producers belive in "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". The non-producers believe in the government solving all of the ills of society. Which one are you? |

1 Large corporations notoriously contribute to the DEMS because DEMS love the big govt programs that DEMS always support. Republican contributions are from smaller businessmen who want to be left alone. |

Last liberal President? Johnson... Interesting to know he was soooo powerful that he controlled business and government up to now, even after his death. Last two balanced budgets? Clinton and then all the way back to that bad guy, Johnson. Biggest debt budgets? Reagan, Bush I and Bush II. No taxes necessary, just go to China and the oil sheiks for a "loan"...The USA is and should be better than the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire thrived on the slavery of their own people and the people they subjected. Roman justice was exclusive to the thin layer of society at the top called citizens. Don't invite our people to consider themselves to be slaves of the powerful anymore than they already do.

That's false. For decades Republicans received more corporate money and controlled K Street (or vice versa). Only since 2007 have the Democrats received more money from corporations. The one sector that is still contributing more to the Republicans is the oil and gas industry. |

1 The persons that need to read this do not read for info. Even if they did, they are unable to draw their own conclusions. Unless they are TOLD what to believe by those that they so blindly follow, they do not care. Anything that goes against what the puppetmasters say is considered bigotry, racist, stupid, conspiracy, etc. Face it, we are doomed. Achieved in 75 years what it took the Romans 1000 years to do - decline our once great society into an immoral, no family values, anything goes society. Our once great melting pot has turned into a smelting pot. All of the sludge and garbage has floated to the surface, hiding the perfect alloy. Too bad we can't scrap off the slag. Prepare for riots, they are coming. Those that know, know. Those that don't, won't. |

1 Of the $59,305,429 donated by the top ten donors, 92.4 percent ($54,798,216) went to Democrats. 7.6 percent ($4,507,212) went to Republicans....Of the top ten individual contributors to "527s" in the 2004 election, the vast majority of money spent came from very wealthy liberal donors and went almost predominantly to Democratic organizations. Only one private donor...gave to GOP organizations. Big money to Democratic 527s from nine of the ten top donors:$31,802,503; Big money to Republican 527s from one of the ten top donors:$1,020,000; 97 percent to Democrat 527s and 3 percent to Republican 527s! So who's really the party of the rich special interests? The Democrats!...The richest members of the U.S. Senate are almost exclusively multi-millionaire Democrats. The only senators worth over $200 million are all Democrats. Eight of the top eleven richest senators are Democrats.... |

Obama says that eliminating the fed gas tax is silly because all it'll save is $30/. If all the gas company profits were eliminated and the pension funds were tanked (along with the rest of the economy) all we would save would be $45/![Oil co profits on a gallon are approx 9% times $3/gal.]

This statement is so false, you should go away and read for a few months, come back and try again. |

1 If you had any knowledge of history you would know that it was a Democratic President who took America to war in Vietnam (a Republican President got us out). Also, Democratic Presidents sent Americans to the two World Wars in Europe. |
