Many people miss the point of food stamps, they were never intended to feed the poor, they were intended to support agriculture. The people are only a means to an end. Of course the ones that run out in the middle of the month are usually the ones that eat like Kings for the first half then they have nothing the second half of the month. You will find they do the samr thing with their checks, run right out and load up with junk. Just to be fair: seniors seem to be the practical ones, usually they don't run out for anything, only if they really need something.

Iraq War- 12 Billion here 100 billion there constantly for over 5 years-- that's a lot of food for Americans. If American needs food we ought to be able to see that they eat. Same with housing . Nobody should be homeless in America. If the NEED is there we have the money to help if it's not wasted on Wars for OIL based on LIES. People will work, with proper training and living wages. Our education system is LAZY so what do you expect from the kids? Jobs have been sent overseas so that top 1-5% can get richer. Stop complaining about people getting help with foodstamps-- hell the way the country has wasted/stolen tax dollars, many complainers about foodstamps are just a step away from needing them.
And a lot of the people who brag about not needing welfare and going to work are actually on a payroll somewhere but working very little. They don't know what work is, just free-loaders on a "job". I see it everyday when I go out to various places to spend my money after WORKING for over 30 years. I'd rather see my tax dollars go to someone honestly in need than see the government squander it the way they have for the last 8 years on non-bid contractors, predatory sub-prime lenders, and multi-national mega-business Sharks and war-mongering sleazes! The percentage of dollars that go to help the poor is a mere pittance of what is stolen by the rich and infamous! If you are not super rich, you'll live to see the time you'll be Glad to get foodstamps working or not!

The biggest issue at play is the education system. It fails to keep vulnerable kids in school and help them break free from the cycle that was created for them generations ago. Sadly, the public education system is just as broken as these kids are.

There are now 4th generation welfare recipients - doing as their parents do, their grandparents do, and as their great grandparents did.

We as a nation are obligated to help them break free from the system the was created for instead of giving them food stamps and building prisons. It's not a democratic, leftist, bleeding heart, or socialist view - it's just common sense. People with an education, a job, life skills pays taxes and contributes to society.

You probably just voted to re-elect that mole-face dummycrat governor too didn't you.
You know, the one that drove every business out of the state by taxing them to death in order to support WELFARE Detroit & Flint.
Now there's no jobs, no tax base, and you can't sell your house and move to another state to get a new job either..
Ahhh, liberal dummycrat politics at it's best. Tax to death to make sure their welfare voting base keeps them in office,, then blame the economy on the Repubicans.
Hell no.. I'm a republican!!!!!
I have never cast a single democRat vote in my LIFE!!!!!!!!
I believe in working for what ya get.
You get what you work for or you get nothing.
If a person needs 2 jobs to get by then that's what they should do.

I don't know why this generation is so afraid of work... but they are!!

Ever watch pople on welfare vs the elderly buying grocies? The ones on food stamps come out ahead every time. Debit cards with 2,000-3,ooo
dollars on them and adding even more each month. WHY do these people need help in the first place?
Have a friend that owns a meat market and he tells me there a lot of people with these high dollar debit cards.
Your meat market friend is lying to you. My sister is disabled and on Social Security. My sister's income is $662 a month, her rent is $450 (no stairs costs more) her utilities run about $i50, and she gets $140 per month in food stamps. You can't even be eligible for food stamps if you have more than about $1500 in resources.
She worked until a car accident cost her the use of her legs and one hand. She only got a chance to work for 6 years before the drunk hit her, and didn't qualify for SSDI. You could be next. Or your daughter, mother, spouse, child, brother....

What about the people who are working two jobs, have been doing it for years, and still can't make ends meet.

BTW, Democrats work in all kinds of jobs and even serve in the military!

What's that saying? If you can't feed your baby, then don't have a baby.

FYI, Illegal immigrants are collecting food stamps. Nice huh? Not even contributing to society yet stealing from the taxpayers.

EDIT: sold

I sure do wish Topix had an edit feature.

That and the topics I removed remained gone in my queue, or the topics that do not have a new post wouldn't show up as having a new post...mine.

That is why there should be no sympathy for those who have these things happen to them when prior to the happening they hated the poor and the handicapped as if they were freeloaders on society.

These people are Nazis and given the chance they would kill them all as burdens on the tax payer.

I agree with most of the negative posts people have on this subject, but there are exceptions. I was once a foolish thinker like these people hiding behind a screen name.
I've just received an EBT card to help me with food. I'm a 29 year old graduate student at a large University that can't make ends meet. It's been a struggle trying to pay bills, pay for school, and eat healthy. I'm not fat like the posts suggest recipients are, I'm thin because I have a 18,000 a year education to pay for, and I skip days of meals to pay for books and supplies that I need.
But here's the thing I'm confused about. There are posts stating that people are receiving thousands of dollars for food, I receive 150.00 a month in assistance. I work 19 hours a week at the university for 5.90 an hour. How the hell do those people get so much, and I get virtually nothing.

Having children will earn you more money.
That is the idea behind scamming the welfare system, Spit out a few kids and never work again.

I worked every other semester full time as a co-op student while getting my undergraduate degree. I graded papers and assisted teaching during the semesters I was at school.

After graduation, my employer offered to pay for graduate school. Carrying a full load at school and working full time as an engineer to support my wife and children, I got my Master's in five years.

Wasn't fun, but I didn't borrow any money nor did I ever see a food stamp.

Can you work an internship in industry that pays more than you're getting? Can you work more than 19 hours a week?

There are lots of ways to get through school without killing yourself or relying on others. Like my Thermodynamics professor told me, there are many ways to skin a cat-- you can always freeze it and turn it on a lathe.

Look at that picture with that big ass bag of charcoal! What the hell does she need that for? More than likely to have a BBQ and feed have the Hoods kids and sit back and drink 40's all day. Get a damn job and don't say daycare because the state can help in that department.
Get out of my country. Now. You are anti-American. You are talking about American citizens. The last time I saw any real welfare reform, it was encted by a liberal. His name is Bill Clinton. If you whiny republicans want to complain about REAL tax-money abuse..start with Dicks halliburton cronies.http://www.senate.gov/ ~schumer/SchumerWebsite/pressr oom/press_releases/2004/PR0269 0.halliburton061704.html
