When I spoke with Dr. Dora Hughes, Obama's Health Care Policy Advisor, about a health care related issue, she promised that she would keep me informed about relevant health care matters. She did not follow through. She did not follow through on several other promises that she made to me either.

Several other of Obama's Senate staff members in DC have told me that since Obama is on the Senate Foreign Relations Committe, they did not know why I had contacted his Senate office about a health care issue. The really said that.

I do not know who Obama's handlers have stocked his staff with, but Obama's staff has never acknowledged to me that they considered health care to be an important issue.

Here in Illinois, when our Governor first attempted to shove state run (universal) health care through the legislature, what happended? When our Governor continued his attempts to shove state run (universal) health care through the legislature, what happened? The state of Illinois' legislators, under demands by the citizens of this state refused and voted them down. So here's Sen. Obama's plan from the article above.

"Obama, on the other hand, would require all children to have health insurance and would require employers to offer health benefits to workers or contribute to the cost of a new public plan. He would expand Medicaid, which provides health coverage to the poor and the disabled, and he would expand SCHIP, the children's health insurance program."

Sound familiar? Just how can Sen. Obama supposedly carry a state with a health plan like this that has already been shot down and buried by the Illinois voters and legislators? Don't drink the kool-aid!

I don't believe for a second that the same people who were extremely concerned about health care during the primaries are suddenly not concerned about it. Remember the guy who stood up at the Democratic forum at Soldier Field who was practically in tears because he could no longer afford insurance for his sick wife? That guy's problem has not been solved. There are still 47 million uninsured Americans. People are crazy if they think this problem is going anywhere. It will just get worse as chronic diseases like diabetes continue to increase in our sick, overweight population.

Hillary Clinton should really force Obama to make health care a more central part of his platform. Not just on his website, but he needs to talk it about it more.

And people need to realize how radical McCain's plan is. Eliminating tax breaks for company-sponsored health care will mean that most companies will stop offering health coverage. Do you really think that for $2,500 you can duplicate your company's coverage? Insurance companies will deny coverage to already sick people, and people with pre-existing conditions. People need to WAKE UP and realize the huge, vast differences between Obama's and McCain's plans and truly decide how important life and health are to them.

We Americans get what we deserve. Let's face it, GW Bush was a known commodity - as was Dick{em} Cheney, by the time the 2004 election rolled around. Personally, I'm a fiscal conservative and a strict constructionist when it comes to the Constitution and the Bill of Right. This...Administration not only took us into a fraudulently premised war - with no gains to be had from it and certainly without a shred of actual WMD's ever being found, but, they've dug a huge hole of a deficit in the process of doing so; a deficit that's going to take years and years to deal with [pay-down - with taxes]. They've awarded no-bid contracts to the Vice [emphasis on the word 'vice'] President's buddies at Halliburton, done nothing to address the deficits for Social Security or Medicare. They've done nothing to improve the delivery systems of medical care services in this country - and certainly not to make it more affordable for John and Mary Q Public. They've tortured, suspended habeas corpus, denied access to legal counsel, outed a covert CIA-agent, illegally wiretaped American's phones in America - without court orders to do so, used political affiliations as a premise for hiring at the Justice Department and so many countless, and utterly unacceptable practices that they're simply too many to list here.
As I've shared, I'm a conservative; in my mind - that means conserving the American way of life, being fiscally responsible and supporting the constitution of the United States. This administration believes in none of those things and McCain is of the same ilk; he's been a do-nothing Senator and a rubber stamp for this administration's...transgressi ons. Sure, Senator Obama's an unproven commodity and he comes out of Illinois' corrupt and perverse political system, but, he can't possibly be any worse than either this administration and/or McCain's...positions. I'm voting for a change - it couldn't be any worse and, who knows, the Jr. Senator from Illinois might just have some real solutions to dig us out of our hole and re-elevate America to a nation worthy of respect.

Putting Clinton on the ticket only ensures higher voter turnout for the republicans!

What matters is that he chooses the best PERSON for the job; NOT that he "APPEASES" Billary supporters!!!

Obama choose Clinton? That would be Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity's absolute dream ticket!

Do you notice how nice the "republican stratigists" are when talking about Clinton? They love her; there's nothing that would make them happier; because that would actually generate a glimmer of "excitement" for the republican base.

A Clinton on Obama's ticket will only bring more republicans to the polls! Simply to vote against a Clinton!!!! Nothing fires-up the republican base like the name CLINTON!!

Health care is dropping because it's not going to be a winning issue. Dems know that eventually they have to explain universal health care and how much it's actually going to cost us in both time, quality and money and repubs don't want to deal with the barrage of real or fake sick kid images because of not wanting to give everyone free health care

This is sick. The price of gas DOES affect the price of almost everything else so that is important and most people NEED gasoline to get to work.

But the war in Iraq should not take precident over healthcare.

we as citizens can't even begin to know all of what is going on with a war and the ifs and whys of a war and foreign affairs.

HOWEVER, WE KNOW WE NEED A BETTER SYSTEM FOR TAXES AND HEALTHCARE.

People need to remember that.

Obama is a socialist who wants to socialize medicine. I don't trust the government to handle my tax dollars, why should I let them handle my healthcare?

There's a perfectly good non-socialist candidate in Ron Paul. He addresses all these issues without making false promises or expanding the government. Write Paul in! He'll fix the dollar which will ultimately improve all issues.

Obama & McCain = Big government, waste, high taxes, crappy Health Care system, crappy economy, cluster F**ks.

Hilary will not be the VP candidate. Get over your fixation with the Clintons. Unfortunately that ship has sailed. My purse has fatter when President Clinton was in office. A possible Hilary candidacy may fire up the Republicans but Lieberman as the Reppublican VP will destroy McCain's chances. BTW, health care is a dead issue. People should go to the clinic.

"Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said he's seeing an energetic debate about the cost of health care in House races around the country, though it is not the top topic for the presidential candidates right now."

Another clueless Illinois Dem.

Yesterday I spent $900 OUT of POCKET for a root canal.

I don't have insurance because:
1 - The medications (about $800/month) I take make even emergency healthcare totally unaffordable, and
2 - Most insurers want at least $300/month - and won't cover reason #1 until I've paid the $2500 to $5000 deductible.

If I get sick or injured, I'll be bankrupted by the cost of care, and unlikely to get decent care, because I won't be able to pay for it.

Catch 22. I lose, the hospital or clinic loses, and ultimately, everyone except the well-off will too.

I just heard Jill Zuckman say "McCain thinks that pulling out the troops "no matter what" is unpatriotic." Anybody who actually has been paying attention is that Obama has never, explicitly or implicitly, said he would pull troops out "no matter what." I am totally disgusted by Ms Zuckman who, at every turn, seems to distort what Senator Obama has said. If she wants to join the McCain campaign, then stop pretending to be a journalist and sign up.

I guess naturally the war/gas/economy is a bigger issue for some people than health care, but it's still an important topic that needs to be looked at.

Want some cheese with that whine? So, I guess in addition to paying for the cost of my health care, I have to pay more in taxes so YOU can get it? I guess that's CHANGE, eh?

Health Care is no more of a right than your salary, your home, or your car. Whatever happened to working for something? Working for a living? Can't afford health care? Tough noogies, bud, it ain't the responsibility of your neighbors to pay your way. If you want that kind of society, move to China. This is America.
