VERY SAD, I don't believe nepotism is what this countries founding fathers or Revolutionary War soldiers had in mind. What a disgrace.

There is a difference between a child/relative being ELECTED to fill a spot formerly held by a family member. It is quite another to simply pass the reins to someone else to take over a seat that he was elected to fill. His son was not elected, he was selected.
In cases like Stroger, someone could temporarily fill the seat, and then hold a special election to fill it permanently.

Add Little Lipinski to the clout born. He seems to be doing a good job. Doesn't remove the fact the job was initially bequeathed to him.

Daley (at least in '89) Hynes and L Madigan had to win elections. L Mad had a difficult primary against John Schmidt and a close election against Joe Birkett.
The Emil thing is in the same vein as Lipinski, Steele and Stroger. ,

Am I living in China-where communist leaders regularly groom their children to take over when they retire? I have to pinch me realy hard. Hereditary? I thought one major difference between America and Europe is that the US never follow European hereditary tradition.

There was aword for this back in the middle ages. Primogenture, where by law the lords passed on their titles to their eldest son, who then used his position to enslave others. Isn't that one of the reasons why people came to America to beigin with? To get away from that bullsh@@?

I support Obama. If he is elected to be President and then gives a position in government to Emil Jones I will never vote for Obama again. This would tell me Obama is just like the rest of THEM.

John, what all of this "friends and family plan" patronage politics has done is sent this city, county and state in the dumpster. There is no reason to work hard merely to sometimes show up. Ask Noelle Brennan! There are no "fresh" ideas, merely "feed the family piggy bank" at the expense of those who can least afford it. Yet the unfortunates still believe the empty campaign promises that get doled out before each election. When will it stop? When one moves out of state. The feds are too concerned with the terrorist under every rock, not the pols hand in every pocket. As for Daley's next cash grab - how about ticketing bicyclists - now THERE is a cash cow if ever I heard of one. No defense, just pay up - of course it only starts with "informational stops....".

Don't expect any criticism from the television "media". Every anchor in Chicago over 50 has a kid working at another station.

"That's a political lie. Chicago thrives in spite of its politicians, not because of them, but it is a convenient falsehood, artfully dropped into the news to help maintain the status quo."
The working class thrives. To bad the patronage army and thoes feeding from the tit outnumber us.

The people of Cook County should get down on their knees and thank the noble families that have dedicated their lives to public service in governing them instead of becoming private sector millionaires. The families are 21st Century descendants of European nobility that created feudalism to protect the serfs from the barbarians. This should not be confused with the greedy nepotism found in for-profit corporations.

PEOPLE OF ILLINOIS OUR TIME IS NOW, REVOLT. AFRICAN AMERICANS , PLEASE EVALUATE WHAT THE DEMOCRATS HAVE HISTORICALLY DONE FOR YOU VS THE REPUBLICANS, STOP BELIVING THE PARTY LIES. You want change? Organize your needs into demands of the elected officials and deliver those votes accordingly to the candidate that follows through. They know you are always gonne pull/punch for Dem. It is always a foregone conclusion and so are your needs, foregone! A dem running just has to sell you a few lines on promise full well knowing that your vote is in the bag. Vote GOP once and see what happens. Historically the GOP has done far more positives and passed more legislation for your community than any other party!

Term limits are way overdue. Two terms in any public office and you're done, no exceptions. At least this rule mightput the clamps on this nonsense.

Budgets are in the toilet and Rod Daly and co are just gonna float another gambling boat.... i can hear the bs now "its for education, for schools and books, for the kids THE KIDS!!" Meanwhile these clowns get another cash cow to grow fat off of. Toll roads are the same sad example. IT eventually serves to serve itself and its pensions and its early retirements that are irrelevant to what the public job market is going through. We all LIKE Richie, he is a good guy I am sure, BUT RIDE HIM OUT OF TOWN ON A RAIL!
